Ms. Jane Doe
Band Director Search Committee
South Floyd Street
Louisville, KY, 40291

Dear Ms. Doe,

Please consider this cover letter as my application for the middle school band director position at
Midtown Middle School. I am currently completing my bachelor's degree in music education/
music performance at the University of Louisville. I have experience working with a wide range
of K-12 students in a band setting, general music class, and choir classes. After looking over the
school website, I feel that I am an appropriate fit for this position.
I have had the opportunity to create my own lesson plans and revise them based off student
response. My church hosts Children’s Music Week each year as well as Vacation Bible School. I
have assisted in these events starting at a young age and began officially working as the music
instructor for the past four years. During these events, I taught music classes to 1st-5th graders
throughout the week on my own.
Other than my work teaching music, I have gained valuable experience working in other fields.
In 2021, I spent 3 months volunteering with the Global Game Changers organization. This is an
after-school program that takes place at a few elementary schools in JCPS. I worked with 1st
graders each week at Byck Elementary where we administered language arts, digital media,
gardening, math, science, and art lessons. GGC implements socioemotional learning in each
lesson, so I am confident in my ability to cater to the needs of students’ social and emotional
experiences.
In 2023, I volunteered and assisted the Backside Learning Community for several months. This
program takes place in the evenings at Beechmont Baptist Church. BLC offers homework help,
private tutoring, and social-emotional instruction to K-12 English Language Learners. I oversaw
many duties such as lesson planning, tutoring for many subjects, working with small groups,
assisting cooking classes, teaching portions of classes, and observing Bilingual teachers.
As listed in the job description, I am a well-rounded musician with admirable leadership
qualities. I am confident that I am fit for this band director position with my experience and
positive approach to teaching. My collaborative skills will ensure that I develop respectful,
professional relationships with my colleagues. I will make an effort to be a part of decision-
making committees to help advocate for the program and be aware of what is going on in the
school. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Sincerely,
Anetta Kendall
