INTRODUCTORY CONCEPT

Noting Details is reading comprehension skill that involves picking out,


from a text a particular piece or pieces of information to achieve a given
purpose such as answering a question in a test.
It is vital to reading comprehension. In fact, it can be said that the
foundation of literal comprehension and comprehension as a whole in
noting details. It is important to note details so we can remember the
most important details of a certain topic, discussion or a lesson. Taking
down notes will help our brain digest the information that were trying to
put into it.

To note significant details is an essential reading skill that any learner


must know. It is the initial skill needed to comprehend any reading text
not only in English but in other subject as well.

Directions: Read the short story and answer the questions that follow;
The Talking Bird
Kiaw is the name of a talking bird found in the thick forests of Palawan. It lives in the tree trunk. To
catch it, men have to climb the tall trees. Only few people possess this kind of a bird because it is difficult
to catch.
The Kiaw is a very interesting creature. It likes bananas, papayas and red pepper. It also drinks a lot
of water. This black bird takes a bath at least five times a day.
The Kiaw is also very loyal to its master. To make the Kiaw talk, its master repeats a word many
times. This rare bird can learn to talk in three months. The Kiaw loves its master very much. When it is
given away, it feels very lonely, then it dies. It also does not like to see blood. If it sees blood or the color
red, it hurts itself until it dies.

THE GOOD SAMARITAN


One day a man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho. He met a group of robbers. They stripped him
off his clothes. They beat him and went away, leaving the man half dead.
A priest who was going came down the same road saw the man. But he passed by on the other side.
Finally, a Samaritan by the same road. When he saw the wounded man, he took pity on him. He went
to him and bandage his wounds, pouring oil on them. Then he put the man on his own donkey. He took
him to an inn and took care of him.
