3 Values of Islamic Culture

Since its earliest history until the present day, the Islamic community has contributed greatly to the
world's life through their culture and civilization. In the intellectual culture, Muslims have produced
great figures in religious sciences such as the scholars of jurisprudence known as the imams of the
madhhabs, such as Hanafi, Maliki, Al-Shafi'i, Hanbali, Ja'fari, and others. Besides producing significant
figures in various fields mentioned above, in the development of science and technology, Muslims have
also produced several prominent figures, including Muhammad Al-Khwarizmi in mathematics, Abu Yusuf
Ya'qub in physics, Jabin ibn Hayyan in chemistry, Ibn Sina in medicine, and many other figures.

The Quran and Sunnah as sources of knowledge direct mankind to conduct research and exploration of
the universe to develop science and technology towards more advanced and beneficial directions.

Islamic cultural values must continue to be developed and applied in communal life. There are several
aspects considered very important and relevant in contemporary life:

1. Being Sincere

In developing culture and civilization, Muslims are directed to do so sincerely for the sake of Allah and to
provide great benefits to human life. Allah says:

```
"Say, 'Indeed, my prayer, my rites of sacrifice, my living and my dying are for Allah, Lord of the worlds.'"
```

This declaration leads every Muslim to carry out various activities with a focus on worship, both direct
worship and social worship.

2. Oriented towards Worship

In the opening supplication recited before each prayer, every Muslim declares: "Indeed, my prayer, my
worship, my life, and my death are for Allah, the Lord of all the worlds." This declaration leads every
Muslim to engage in various activities with a focus on worship, both direct worship and social worship.

3. Working Professionally

Working professionally and having a strong work ethic is a manifestation of Islamic teachings. If we pay
attention to the verses of the Quran emphasizing belief in Allah, they are always followed by commands
to perform righteous deeds, namely working well with a high work ethic, prepared plans, and aiming for
professionalism.

4. Developing Science and Technology

It cannot be denied that progress in the field of science and technology has greatly benefited human life.
This progress includes advancements in various fields such as economy, transportation, accommodation,
information, communication, and others. Islam directs that scientific and technological progress should
not harm fellow human beings, such as air pollution, deforestation, land and sea degradation, moral
decline, high crime rates, and various other negative effects. To anticipate the negative impacts of
science and technology, efforts must be made simultaneously and continuously by all sectors in earnest.
Additionally, efforts must always be made to uphold noble morals and virtues.

5. Honesty in Various Aspects of Life

Honesty is a commendable trait that must be possessed by everyone who seeks success, both in the
present and in the future. Therefore, there will be no harmful situations between one group of people
and another. Honesty is greatly needed in all aspects of life, especially those related to science,
technology, and art. If science, technology, and art are not managed with honesty, they will cause
significant negative impacts and dangers in society.

6. Prioritizing Public Welfare

One of the goals of developing science, technology, and art as part of culture is to bring about collective
welfare and the sustainability of the universe. In this way, culture can elevate the dignity of humanity as
creatures entrusted by God to manage the universe for all beings. A noble civilization can be born from a
society that highly upholds public welfare and preserves the noble values that develop within the
society.

7. Thinking Rationally and Philosophically

One characteristic of philosophical thinking is thinking critically and argumentatively. Critical thinking is a
deliberate effort to think actively, systematically, argumentatively, following the principles of logic, and
considering various perspectives to understand whether something can be accepted or rejected.
Rational and philosophical thinking is necessary so that its products are truly accurate, accountable, and
provide broad benefits.

8. Being Objective
Being objective is one of the characteristics of professional conduct. Therefore, the development of
culture emphasized in science, technology, and art must be directed towards the most objective
conditions possible. Everyone in their respective professions must be objective.
