I have loved and played volleyball ever since I was little.

I grew up watching male

dominated sports like basketball through the NBA and football through the NFL. But,
volleyball is more popular among females. The sport has been the number one sport in
girls participation in the United States for almost a decade. I always wondered why
there was no organization equivalent to the NBA or the NFL, but for women’s volleyball.
There is women’s volleyball at the collegiate level and at the olympic level, but there
was no level in between those in the United States. Talented volleyball players from
North America were forced to play overseas where they could earn a salary, until now.
On November 17, 2022, the Pro Volleyball Federation (PVF) was officially formed. The
PVF is a women’s professional indoor volleyball league in the United States. This
organization gives women a chance to play at a highly competitive level and earn a
wage. The PVF has fulfilled what many sport-loving Americans have dreamed of. The
PVF inaugural season began on Wednesday of this week, January 24, 2024. Atlanta
Vibe competed against the Omaha Supernovas at the CHI Center in Omaha.
Attendance records were broken as 11,624 fans filled the arena. The game went to 5
sets, which is a testament to just how competitive and exciting women’s volleyball is. In
the end, Atlanta Vibe pulled out the win. In total, there are currently 7 teams around the
U.S. that are a part of the PVF. Also, 3 more teams are to be added to this organization
in the near future. Indiana specifically is planning to form a team to compete in the PVF!
This organization is shedding light on the female dominated sport of volleyball and
forming a cloud of popularity around all women’s sports which has been desperately
deserved.
