Work immersion is part of NSTP that aims to make students realize their vital
role in nation building by advancing their involvement in public and in civic
affairs through awareness and participation in different advocacies and
community service activities based on their capabilities. In order to achieve
better outcome, it requires teamwork, defined as work done by a group acting
together so that each member does a part that contributes to the efficiency of
the whole that requires, collaboration and cooperation.
A letter was constructed by our NSTP instructor and was addressed to the
Barangay Captain of LOSAD Sabangan, the letter was signed and approved on
February 24. The leader of the group that is bound to go to Barangay LOSAD
had a talk to one of the driver that routes from Bontoc to LOSAD (vice versa) to
be there transportation to reach the place. March 2, 2024, was the 1 st day of
the immersion at exactly 7:30 in the morning the group has already departed
and arrived at LOSAD at exactly 8:00 am making it a 30 minutes travel from
Bontoc. The group was readily welcomed by the barangay captain together with
other officials since before going to the place a text message was sent to the
barangay captain to be informed that a group will be arriving that day. Upon
arriving at the barangay hall our names was listed by the barangay secretary
for some other purposes and also served as our attendance to be passed to our
instructor.
8:30 in the morning, our first task started, we were divided into three
groups and went around the place for a clean-up drive, (picking garbage/trash
along sidewalks, canals, and rivers). The first task ended at 9:30 in the
morning, we had our rest while having our snack (Coffee/Barako, Sunflower
Biscuits, and Chocolate Chips) provided by the barangay. We continued our
work at 10:30, we were again divided into 2 groups, the 1 st group focused on
segregating the plastics, cans, and bottle that is stocked at their Materials
Recovery Facility (MRF), while for the second group they were sent at the road
to sweep fallen pine needles and leaves of the trees, also brushing off the sand
and dust that causes the wheels of vehicles to slip that may cause to an
accident. The task ended at 11: 30 am, and we had our rest before having our
lunch at exactly 12 noon.
1:30 pm, we continued to work in cleaning the storage room of the barangay
hall by sweeping the floor, and assorting materials like big casseroles,
monoblocks, and parachutes. While the others sweep off the spider webs that
is visibly seen in the ceilings and entrance of the barangay hall. We finished
our 1st day of immersion, and had a prayer before leaving the place and going
back to our houses, dorms, and boarding houses.
On the first day of the immersion teamwork was done with cooperation and
collaboration and finished our task without any complains but with a happy
face, also for the reason that we were welcomed warmly and treated properly.
From that immersion we realized that in order to achieve such a great outcome
cooperation, collaboration, communication, unity, and inclusion is indeed a
very big must.

Participating and joining in a Community/Work Immersion allows

individuals who are not familiar with the people and communities where they
will work to immerse themselves in these settings. It gives an individual a new
experience and also provides a meaningful learning opportunities as they reach
out to places who needed help from these NSTP students. It provides students
with real-life experiences in different industries, where they can apply what
they have learned in a non-school setting and to develop skills such as
teamwork, communication skills (respect to one another and to the people you
are about to encounter in this place you), understanding one another and
professionalism. It also helps an individual develop confidence, self-esteem,
and necessary skills as such self-management and time-management.
We woke up early in the morning of March 9, 2024 to prepare as we are to
continue our work immersion at Barangay LOSAD, despite of the cloudy
weather and gloomy environment we left our dorms, boarding houses and
houses and went to our meeting place where we are to ride our transportation
to continue our task that reserved to be done that day. We arrived at the place
8:00 am in the morning, and waited for the Barangay captain to come and tell
us what to do, by the time he arrived he told us to prepare our cleaning
material (Gloves, Stickbroom, Garbage Bag). We went to SAO one of the sitios
of this barangay which is accessible through walking a bridge since it is located
above the river. On our way to this place we started picking up garbage and
trash, upon reaching the place our sacks were already half-full, we were
divided into 2 groups and was told to meet at the “at-ato” if we are done. We
finished picking up at 10:30 in the morning and all the garbage that was
collected were carried by the boys and was brought back at the barangay hall
which is 15 minutes away from the place. Upon reaching the barangay hall we
were told to rest, while having our snack (Coffee/Barako and Bakery Bread)
which was again provided by the barangay. After having our snack we went to
the road which just above the barangay hall and swept the fallen leaves of
Milena trees and pine needles. We finished our task at 11:30 and then went
back to the barangay hall to ask for the next task, the barangay captain told us
to rest then have our lunch because our work was done and we can go home
after having our lunch. After eating the barangay made an announcement and
lead a closing prayer before we departed ways.
To work in a group where everyone knows the concept of unity, teamwork,
and cooperation made the immersion faster and enjoyable. To socialize with
people we don’t know personally who values hospitality and who are welcoming
made us even eager to do our best to help. To work in a community with people
that is thankful and value our hard works and dedication was so pleasing to
the heart. An activity and task was way more enjoyable and memorable if we
are with people who understand each other rather than always complaining.
We were always thankful to be able to work and socialize with these amazing
people.
