Theme 10 - Summary
Construction: The main verb (whether an action or a state) has few changes when we use the simple
past. It’s necessary to recognize whether the verb is regular or irregular.
Affirmative Sentences: → Subject + Verb in past + Complement
E.g: - She played the violin yesterday. - We went to a rock concert last weekend.
* With Regular Verbs
If the verb is regular just add - ed, - d or - ied at the end of the verb.
Examples
- I moved to New York last year
- She worked with her sister.
- He studied for his exam last
night.
- It rained a lot yesterday.
- We traveled to France last
month.
* With Irregular
Verbs If the verb is irregular, it means it has a different spelling and pronunciation from the
present to the past
Examples
- You bought a car two days ago.
- My dad understood my
situation.
- I met my girlfriend in a party.
- He felt sick last weekend.
- She drank a lot of coffee.
* Some verbs do not change
* Some exceptions keep the same spelling but change the pronunciation.
