Fad Diet: Lemon Detox

What is a Lemon Detox?

The solid-free food diet, the lemon detox is a diet that started during the 1940s and involves
consuming ONLY lemon juice-based mixture for 1 or 2 weeks, to remove all toxins from the body
tissue and blood streams as a result of weight loss.

What are the strengths and weaknesses of this diet?

The strengths of this diet can vary from weight loss to improved digestion, this is because lemon
is a natural energizer, which contains citric acid, vitamins, minerals, etc which is beneficial.
However, the weakness of this diet is that most of these benefits are not backed up with scientific
evidence to prove why this works. They can lead to malnutrition and gastrointestinal problems.
The ultimate reason why this concept is incoherent is because our bodily function does not
correlate to the diet. This results that the diet is not reliable and valid to what it says online.

Explain how this diet follows or does not follow the dietary guidelines for
Australians?
Just to give you a summary of what the Australian Dietary Guidelines are, it is an Australian
Guideline to how we can develop healthier wellbeing by having better food choices and advice
about the amount of foods we must eat per day mostly covered with scientific evidence with
quality research. In general, the simplest response to this argument is that a lemon detox does
not follow the dietary guidelines for Australians as it lacks most of the essential food groups and
scientific evidence.

Explain whether this diet is Sustainable?

To understand if the lemon detox is sustainable, we must uncover its long-term benefits.
According to this article, it explains that this diet does not enhance the natural body processes,
potentially hindering them. This overall explains that this diet does not allow long-term success
but could cause detrimental side effects such as fatigue, long-term weight gain, etc.

Conclusion:
Overall, the lemon detox is not sustainable, not reliable, not robust enough and not effective at all
for adolescents aged 10-19, as they should strictly not follow the requirements of this diet. Such
as having an extremely low-calorie diet plan (Needing excess calories to grow and flourish into
adulthood) and having no benefits other than causing side effects such as headaches and
fatigue.
