CATCH-UP FRIDAYS TEACHING GUIDE

II. Session Outline
Session Title: "60 seconds = 1 minute, or does it?”
Session At the end of the session, learners will be able to:
Objectives: a) To raise awareness about different perceptions of various
notions, e.g. time, depending on different representations that
are particular to each individual, even in the same culture.
b) To prepare students going on an international mobility program
to different perceptions of time.
c) actively engage in60 seconds= 1 minute, or does it?" activities,
reflecting on personal experiences
Key Concepts:  Intercultural relation are relations between groups or
individual from different cultures. The relation can be
characterized by acknowledgement of different world vision or
by the ignorance of them.
 Every individual has a unique perception of various notion, e.g.
time, depending on the different representations that are
particular to each individual, even in the same culture
III. Teaching Strategies
Components Duration Activities and Procedures
Activity: Visualizing Watch/Wall Clock
Materials: Watch (Wristwatch)
 Introduce the topic. Teacher asks learners to hide
their watches they may have. It there’s a wall clock
cover it by the paper.
 Ask, "What's happening if you don’t know the

B. Concept 20 mins Activity: “Let’s Go”
Exploration Materials: Chairs and Handkerchief
 Arrange the class. Ensure all learners can see
performers.
 Everybody has to practice sitting down on their
chairs silently-and with their eyes closed
 The teacher asks everyone to stand up and close
their eyes. On the command “GO”, each learner is
to count up to 60 seconds and sit down when they
finished.
 It is important to stress that this activity can only
work if everyone is quit the whole of it. Once
learner have sat down they can open their eyes,
but not before
 Ask the learners to estimate for how long they had

their eyes closed, and give the first and last ones
their time
 Clearly this activity opens up the whole concept of
time and each individual’s relationship to it. You
can then go on the discuss whether there are
culturally different perceptions of time, space etc.
Activity: “PRECIOUS TIME”
Materials: Mobile phone/Laptop
 Show a short clip with emotional content.

C. Valuing 10 mins  Prompt learners and discuss character feelings
and real-life connections.
 Ask this reflective question: "Can you recall a time
when understanding someone's feelings changed
your reaction?"
Activity: “TIME is Gold”
Materials: Reflection writing
 Explain the task: Creatively express thoughts on
“Time is gold”
 Allow time to write, draw, or record thoughts.
Journal Writing 15 mins
 Call at least three learners to share their reflection
to the class.
 Conclude that it will help you to talk about
different perceptions of reality in different cultures
and also within the same culture.
