Method of Statement for Backfilling Works

• Project : R1096 – G+14+R Al Qusais Residential Development

• Location : Plot No. 232-499, Dubai

• Consultant : Schuster Pechtold


1. Objective: The objective of this method statement is to define the procedure for
backfilling works at the construction site, ensuring safe and efficient execution in
compliance with project specifications and drawings.

2. Scope: This method statement covers the backfilling activities for Al Qusais
Residential Development at Plot No. 232-499. It includes the backfilling of trenches,
foundation excavations, and any other designated areas as per the project requirements.

3. Responsibilities:

• Construction Manager: Overall supervision and coordination of backfilling


works.
• Backfilling Team: Execution of backfilling activities in accordance with approved
drawings and specifications.
• Quality Control Inspector: Ensuring that backfilling works meet specified
standards and quality requirements.

4. Materials and Resources:

• Suitable backfill material (as per project specifications)


• Compaction equipment (rollers, compactors)
• Surveying equipment (if required)
• Safety equipment (PPE, barricades)

5. Procedure:

5.1 Site Preparation:

• The area where backfilling to be started, to be cleaned well, accessible and safe.
• Ensure that the area to be backfilled is marked to appear the layer of backfilling.
• Conduct a pre-start safety briefing with the backfilling team.
• Ensure that the area to be backfilled is inspected and approved for backfilling.
• Place warning signs and barricades to secure the backfilled area.
• Ensure that damp-proofing, water proofing and perimeter insulation are
completed in construction below finish grading.
• Remove all concrete form work, trash and debris
“5.2 Backfilling Process:

• Place and compact backfill material in layers (25mm thick) to required elevations
as follows :
- Under footing and foundation, use engineered fill
- Under building slabs, use engineered fill.
- Under Steps and ramps, use Engineered fill.
- Under Walks and pavements, use satisfactory soil material
- Under grass and planted areas, use satisfactory soil material.

• Compact each layer to achieve the specified compaction density (95%).


• Use suitable compaction equipment, such as rollers or compactors, to ensure
proper compaction.
• Backfill in lifts, not exceeding the maximum lift thickness specified in the project
requirements.
• Ensure that backfill is free from large rocks, debris, or other materials that could
affect compaction.

5.3 Compaction Testing:

• Conduct compaction tests at regular intervals to verify the achieved compaction


density.
• Adjust compaction efforts as necessary based on test results.
• Record and document compaction test results.

5.4 Slope Protection:

• Provide slope protection where required to prevent erosion or instability.

5.5 Grading and Leveling:

• Grade and level the backfilled area to match the surrounding terrain or as per
project specifications.
5.6 Inspection:

• Ensure that the compaction test drove where required according to the specs for
each layer
• Ensure that the compaction test test results comply with specifications and
project requirements
• Ensure that the compaction test results submitted to the consultant.
• Conduct a final inspection to ensure the backfilled area meets project
requirements.

6. Records:

• Maintain a record of daily backfilling activities, including quantities, compaction


test results, and any deviations from the drawings.

• Document any corrective actions taken to address quality issues.
