The Pleven Epopee 1877 Panorama

It is one of the biggest panoramas in the world that portray the five-months battles during the
Russian-Turkish war 1877-78 as a result of which Bulgaria was liberated from the 500 years
of Turkish rule.

About its amaizement :

The Pleven Panorama is the most recognizable symbols of the town of Pleven and a national
landmark that you should see if you have the chance. It is an original combination of artistic
paintings, sculptures, authentic articles and explanatory texts that presents the development of
the events, especially those related to the third assault of the town. The illusion effect
(perspective up to 10km) is impressive and takes the visitors back in time, carries them into
another reality. The spectator finds himself in the middle of the battlefield – attacking Russian
army, smoke from shells, doctors, fires burning in the town, counter-attacking Turkish
cavalry, the Russian General Skobelev leading the attack against the Turkish defences.

History:
The Panorama was constructed in honour of the 100th anniversary of the Liberation of
Bulgaria and was officially presented on 10 December 1977 and is one of the largest
panoramas in the world today. For the decoration 11 Russian and two Bulgarian artists were
hired to make the paintings, plastics and architecture.
