Use the different Internet Services

Background Information for Learners:

This Lesson is about the different internet services. After reading the Learning Activity
Sheet, the learners can answer these essential questions: What are the different Internet
Services? and What is the Internet service that you often use? The activities are meant to
encourage the learners to know about the different things you can do with the Internet and how to
use them properly.

INTERNET AT YOUR SERVICE

There are a lot of useful things that Internet can do. These are the services that are
available on the Internet.

VoIP – Voice over Internet Protocol

This is a telephone service using the Internet. This service helps you use the Internet
in calling the landline phone or cell phone of your friends and loved ones around the world.

IPTV – Internet Television Services

This service allows you to watch live TV programs or replays of TV shows. It has a
catalog of videos and TV programs all over the world.
Blog and Web feeds
 This service allows you to enter comments, descriptions, events, or other materials,
like newspaper articles and books. This can also be a personal diary online. It is also an
interactive site allowing people to communicate their ideas.

Instant Messaging or IRC – Internet Relay Chat

This service is in the form of chat or text messaging, conferencing, or talking to many
people at the same time. This is for good communication and discussion that allows one-
on-one communication through private messaging and file sharing

Social Network
This service is made up of individuals or organizations called “nodes” which are
connected by friendship, kinship, common interest, likes, dislikes, beliefs, knowledge, or
relationships.

Online Shopping
This is the process of buying goods and services from merchants who sell on the
Internet. Since there is the World Wide Web, merchants sell their products to people who
surf the Internet. Shoppers can visit and shop on the online stores from their homes. Items
bought are delivered through mail or directly delivered at home.

Downloading Software
This service provides opportunities to easily download programs and files.

File Compression
This service compresses files to make them smaller in size and faster to download.
They are offering decompression programs to compress the files.
