3-4 days FIRST AID LEVEL 1 & 2

This intermediate training course covers the essentials of first aid in more detail. The extra theoretical
and practical training enables students to improve their care of an injured person as well as cover topics
that are not covered fully in level 1.
This course covers – Adult and Child CPR & Choking, Emergency scene management & safety, Wounds,
Bleeding, Burns, Shock, Vital signs, Unconsciousness, Fainting, Fractures, Bandaging, Splinting, Head &
Spinal Injuries, Impaled objects, Head to toe, Vital signs, Electrocution, Patient history, Basic bites &
stings, Poisonings, Two person Adult & Child CPR, Infant CPR, Multiple injury management, Drowning,
Asthma, Heart attacks & chest pain, Epilepsy, Strokes, Seizures, Temperature emergencies, Rescue
carries, Snake bites, Problem solving scenarios, Chest Injuries and Cardio-Pulmonary system.

Learning objectives:
 Demonstrate an understanding of emergency scene management: personal
safety, scene safety, patient safety and medico-legal implications
 Demonstrate an understanding of elementary anatomy and physiology:
different systems of the body
 Assess an emergency situation: triage, mechanism of injury or nature of
illness, types of injuries (fractures, burns, lacerations, difficulty with breathing,
severe haemorrhage, head injuries, spinal injuries, level of consciousness,
strains and sprains) and type of assistance required
 Sustain a basic level of preparedness for health emergencies in the workplace
 Assess and manage an emergency scene in the workplace. Explain and
manage shock
 Apply first aid procedures to life-threatening situation: appropriate current
treatment, (improvised) equipment, precautions, CPR and medical assistance Only for
required R2 399.95
 Treat common injuries: identify injury, determine treatment, choose or
improvise equipment, prevent infection, get medical assistance and provide
follow-up care
