It shows that most women have a contrasting meaning with positive words.

1. Fine: May sound like there is no existing problem, but for women, it also means
something’s bothering them.

Literal meaning: Everything’s good.


Pragmatic meaning: I don’t feel good, something’s bothering me and you should
know it.

2. Five minutes: Most women take their time in preparation, which is why they are
always in a hurry. However, it also means to wait longer.

Literal meaning: Just wait.


Pragmatic meaning: Wait for more than five minutes.

3. Nothing: A sign that something is up and it is deeply bothering a woman but doesn’t
like to open the problem.

Literal meaning: Nothing at all.


Pragmatic meaning: I am hesitant if I should tell it directly or just forget about it.

4. Go ahead: This phrase can be used genuinely or sarcastically by women.

Literal meaning: Urge someone to proceed.


Pragmatic meaning: Don’t do it, or else we will fight.

5. A loud sigh: The phrase symbolizes being disappointed or relieved.

Literal meaning: A relief after doing something tiring.

6. That's Okay: It’s an indirect phrase for I don’t know.

Literal meaning: It’s alright.


Pragmatic meaning: I’m not sure if I will like it or not.

7. Thanks: It is used to say your gratefulness to someone, or it can be used to end a


conversation.

Literal meaning: Appreciated.


Pragmatic meaning: Thanks but I don’t want to talk anymore.

8. Whatever: A form of agreeing in a forced way.


Literal meaning: It’s up to you.
Pragmatic meaning: Yeah right, anything you want.

9. Don't worry about it, I got it: It’s a common phrase for someone who doesn’t want
to receive help from others for some reason.

Literal meaning: I can handle this.


Pragmatic meaning: Concern yourself, I don’t like your help.
