Narrator: On the evening of February 4, 1899, is when Private Willaim Grayson and a
Nebraskan soldier on duty fired the first shots along Sociego Street that started the
Philippine American war.
Narrator: That concludes the summary of the outbreak that led to the Philippine-
American war. Let us now commence with the 2nd scenario, the tragic suppression of
Filipino Nationalism.

The Flag. Prohibited any flags that would rebel against the Americans.
Rodolfo: There! This flag law should probably help us with controlling those natives'
nationalism..
Rodolfo: We can not risk the Filipinos to grow and gain back their nationalism.. Or else,
they will rebel upon us.
Frances: Yes. We must prohibit any display of flag that may cause rebellion.
Narrator: Two officials representing the American government have just signed the Flag
law.

colonization!

Sean 2: Amazing! With these letters, we can convince more people to join our forces!
Raven: Correct! These letters will help because it highlights exactly what American
atrocities they have acted upon us Filipinos!
(Frances slams the book closed then throws the book to the ground)
Frances: SHOOT!
Narrator: November 4, 1901, 3rd law, Sedition. Prohibited act of highway robbery.
REFLECTION:
We learned that the Americans truly suppressed our Country, they took from us, took
advantage and most of all disrespected our nationality. Because of what had happened,
there was a costly conflict and lasting impact on the Philippines. It was provoked by
decades of colonialism, oppression, and mistreatment which had left a deep resentment
among the Filipinos. The Filipino’s really did struggle for their independence. Though we
did learn, at a great cost, the Filipino’s resilience in the face of adversity serves as a
reminder of the importance of defending one’s rights and freedoms.
