Assignment 1.

Task 1:
Chapter 2.
In this chapter, we learn how humans produce speech sounds and how linguists
classify speech sounds. Sounds are classified according to how they’re produced
and what they sound like, and most remember that we change the airflow we also
change the sound. We also begin to learn a notation system for representing speech
sounds, since the English writing system is not very accurate or consistent in how
it represents sounds.
After completing this chapter, we can easily:
 Identify the parts of the human body used to create speech sounds
 Classify speech sounds according to their pronunciation and acoustic
properties.
 Uses International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) symbols to represent speech
sounds.

Chapter 4.
In this chapter, We will learn about the larynx and how we breathe
and how we make sounds. After completing this chapter we will
understand more about how it works and how it makes sounds.

Chapter 5.
After completing this chapter.
 We can recognize phonemes by taking segments (letters) from
the abstract alphabet in our head (the abstract alphabet is only
effective when we already know and understand it clearly.
Reflect In fact, not knowing the abstract alphabet means not
being able to distinguish the differences between letters).

 Be able to distinguish the difference between the phonemic

transcription and the phonetic transcription. The phonemic
transcription is faster and easier than, the phonetic
transcription is more accurate and detailed than.

 The difference between phonetics and phonology can be

recognized through the fact that phonetics is learning about
sounds and phonology is learning about how phonemes work
and the relationships between different phonemes.
