1) List any 4 sources of heat in hydraulic system. (CO4)

 Pump
 Fluid friction
 External sources
 Mechanical sources
 Pressure drops.

2) State function of FRL and draw its symbol.

 FRL stand for filter, regulator, lubricator.

 Its function is to filter air and regulate the air pressure and lubricate the compressed air
in order to maintain the optimal performance of pneumatic system.

3) What are common problems occurring in pneumatic system. (CO6)

 Air leaks
 Contaminants
 High temperature
 Pressure loss.

4) Give any 4 practical applications of pneumatic system. (CO6)

 Hand tools
 Press machine.
 Foundry machine
 Small cranes

1) Draw symbol of a) FRL b) Mu ler. (CO6)

2) Draw circuit to actuate single acting pneumatic cylinder. (CO6)
3) Draw symbols of a) oil Heater b) Intensifier (CO4)

2) Explain Sliding seals with neat sketch. (CO4)

 Sliding seals are mainly used with the cylinder to prevent fluid escaping around the
piston rod.
 Generally sliding seals are four ring type.
1) solid ring
2) O-ring
3) Rectangular section
4) U ring cup
 U cup seal prevent fluid passing from top to bottom of the piston
 Wiper ring are used to wipe out oily dirt from the piston rod
IHP QUESTION BANK

3) Explain construction and working of time delay valve. (CO4)

Construction

 Time delay valve is used to create a delay between the operation of valve and movement
of actuator.
 Time delay valve is the combination of air reservoir and flow control valve

Working:-

 Compressed air is supplied through port p. because air cannot pass through port A ,
because port A is blocked
 Pressurised air is also passing through another port P1.
 The flow of air passing through port P1 is controlled by needle
 When the pressure is enough to push the spool, the spool will move toward right and
port P will connected to Port A

1) Write Causes and remedy for low pressure in system. (CO5)

Causes remedies

 Pressure set too low:- check the relief valve and set properly
 Faulty pressure relief valve: - repair / replace the relief valve.
 Leakages in the system: - check the seal failure, make leak proof connection.
 Fliter clogged: - clean the filter or check filter capacity.

2) Write Causes and remedy for noisy pump. (CO5)

 Misalignment / wornout part:- make the proper alignment replace the worn out part
 Cavitation in pump :- adjust the motor rpm
 Clogged filter :- clean the filter ,check filter capacity
 Too high speed of the pump :- check speed and select proper gear to reduce the speed

7) State methods of sequencing. Explain any one with sketch. (CO5)

There are two types of sequencing circuit

 pressure dependent sequencing circuit.

 travel dependent sequencing circuit.

Pressure dependent sequencing circuit

Working :-

 this circuit is used to for drilling the hole in workpiece. the sequence operation is
a) Clamping the workpiece
b) Drilling
c) Declamping and drilling
 Now worker will operate foot lever of dc valve and valves take position 1
 Now oil will start supplying directly to C2
 Then piston will advance and immediately clamp the workpiece
IHP QUESTION BANK

1) Explain impulse Circuit to operate S.A cylinder.

Non actuated position:-

 The push button of valve is not operated .hence the air signal is not supplied to main 3 x
2 dc valve
 the compressed air is not entering into SA cylinder through the Port A

actuated position :-

 push button of valve is operated . hence the air signal is supplied to main 3x2 dc valve
 compressed air will be admitted into through port A into sa cylinder.
 Now the piston is moved upward and spring of cylinder will compress

2) Draw sequencing circuit for two double acting cylinders. (CO6)
