D. PRESENTATION
In today’s lesson, you will learn about perimeter and area of square and rectangle.
PERIMETER
PERIMETER can be defined as the path or the boundary that surrounds a shape. It can also be defined as the
length of the outline of a shape.
Formula: P = a + b + c + d or P = 2x (L + W)
AREA
AREA it refers to the space occupied by a flat shape or the surface of an object.
The area of a figure is the number of unit squares that cover the surface of a closed figure. Area is measured in
square units such as square centimeters, square feet, square inches, etc.
1.2 Pupils together with the pupils solve some problems about perimeter and area.
Valuing: Why is perimeter and area important in our life?
2. For modular learners: For better understanding of the lesson, refer to Math textbook on pages 365-380, and on
NDTC LEAP.

Activating Knowledge
1. P = 2x (5 + 2) 2. A = 15 x 15
P = 2x 7 A = 225 m
P = 14m
Activity 1:
1. P = 2 (5+8) 2. P = 4 x 21 cm 3. P = 4 x 45 cm 4. P = 2 (60 + 25) 5. A = 13 x 13 6. A = 45 x 20
P = 26 m P = 84 cm P = 180 cm P = 170cm A = 169 cm 2 A = 900 mm 2
7. A=3x5 8. A = 55 x 55
2 2
A = 15 m A = 3, 025 m
