I. Define the following:

● Universe
- Universe is a whole concept of the cosmic system of matter and energy of which our
planet earth and other planets in the solar system are part of it. It can also be a great
number or great quantity of people.

● Population
- Population is the number of people or inhabitants in a certain country or region. It is
always subject to change due to the factors of increasing (births, migration) or
decreasing (deaths, migration).

● Sample
- Sample is a subset of the population that can be used in a research study or it is
selected by random from a population to conduct a hypothesis about a population
for research purpose.

● Sample size
- A sample size is the number of individuals or participants that can be used for
determining the estimation of a given population.

II. Describe the relationship of Population, sample and conclusion.

● The population is the entire group under investigation, while the sample refers to the
smaller one selected for the study. A sample is used to gain a better understanding of the
population. The sample must be representative of the population, meaning that the data
from the sample should be generalized to the whole group. However, such generalization is
challenging since every sample is subject to certain levels of bias. The observations and
hypotheses drawn from the sample are projected onto the population; however, the
researcher must remain careful in this regard since the method of sampling is not without
limitations. The credibility of the research’s usability to the population is dependent on the
validity of the research method.
