Welcome to the Space Flight Simulator, where
the latest computer technology will allow you to
travel in a virtual Lunar Space Shuttle. Today,
we are making a virtual short trip to the Moon
and back. Before we take off, please listen
carefully to the safety announcement.
Please sit in your seats and put on the safety
belts ready for take-off. No smoking is allowed
inside the ship. Space flight is dangerous, so
please do not stand or move about during the
flight. Our robot flight attendants will bring you
snacks and drinks during the flight. In an
emergency, please remain in your seats. The
robot flight attendants will tell you what to do.
Our flight today will take 30 minutes and we will
make one orbit of the Moon before returning to
Earth. From your window, you will see the exact
place where Neil Armstrong landed on the
Moon in 1969. As we fly over the Moon’s
surface, we will fly past the Mir Space Station.
We will land here for a short period of time,
while we collect a new robot flight attendant.
Please don’t get out of your seats or leave the
ship during this time.
On our return journey, you will have a perfect
view of the Earth. It is a beautiful sight and one
you will never forget. Your captain will describe
the sights and tell you interesting space facts
throughout your journey. If you want to ask any

From Taransay to the South Pole
Ben Fogle is a famous TV presenter in the UK,
but he has done many exciting and interesting
things in his life. He became famous in the year
2000 when he was in a reality TV show called
Castaway. He was part of a group of people
who lived alone on a remote Scottish island
called Taransay for a year. There were thirty-
six people and they had to build their own
houses and grow their own food. Since then he
has presented a lot of TV programmes about
nature and animals including Animal Park, Wild
in Africa, and Extreme Dreams. These
programmes have taken him all over the world.
He has also made documentaries about the
British explorer Captain Scott, Prince William
and crocodiles in Botswana.

Ben loves exploring and he has done some
very difficult and dangerous expeditions. In
2005/6 he rowed across the Atlantic with
Olympic rowing champion James Cracknell.
They were in a small boat and they had many
accidents during the journey. Then in 2009 he
skied across Antarctica in a race to the South
Pole. One of the people in his team was his old
rowing partner James Cracknell. This journey
took 18 days. They didn’t win. The Norwegian
team beat them but it was a great achievement
to complete the journey. Ben nearly didn’t go
on this last trip. While he was working in Peru
he became very ill and nearly died. But he
recovered and immediately started training for
the Antarctic race. He has written five books
about his adventures and his life and he writes
a regular column for a British newspaper. The
only question remains. What will Ben do next?

What do you do when you wake up and you
don’t feel well? You’ve got a sore throat and
a headache. You feel sick and you can’t go
to school. Well, you don’t always have to go
to the doctor for help. First, you should visit
your local chemist. You can go to them and
ask for advice. Chemists will listen to you and
suggest what pain killers or medicine you
should take. They can tell you if you should
stay at home or if you should see a doctor.
They sell all kinds of painkillers and medicine
so they should have something that you
need.
Chemists don’t only sell medicines. They also
sell products such as shampoo, soap and
perfume. They sometimes have a notice
board on the wall where you can read notices
about local exercise classes and clubs. We
all know that we should eat healthy food and
that we should exercise regularly, but we
don’t always do it!
Most chemists are open from Monday to
Saturday from nine in the morning until 5.30
in the afternoon. They sometimes close for
lunch from one until two, and in small towns
they often close for one afternoon a week.
But there’s always a chemist open in your
area. Phone 098 558723 to find out which
chemist in your area is open in the evening
and on Sunday. Or you can look at the list in
your chemist’s shop window.
Chemists are qualified professionals. They
can give you professional advice and save
you a trip to the doctor. However, they aren’t
doctors and if a baby is ill, or you have a
serious health problem, you must call your
