Introduction to ACEs:

1The Study is an ongoing collaboration between the Centers for Disease


Control (CDC) and Kaiser
2: parental substance use, incarceration, and domestic violence. ACEs can
also include situations that may cause trauma for a child, such as having a
parent with a mental illness or being part of a family going through a divorce
3: About 64% of U.S. adults reported they had experienced at least one type
of ACE before age 18, and nearly 1 in 6 (17.3%) reported they had
experienced four or more types of ACEs

 2 Health is influenced by many factors, which may generally be organized into five
broad categories known as determinants of health: genetics, behavior, environmental and
physical influences, medical care and social factors. These five categories are
interconnected. Just like health but a little bit different for behavior is that it has Abilities.
 Gender.
 Race and culture.
 Attribution.
 Perception.
 Attitude.

Impact on Child Development:

1.Children growing up with toxic stress may have difficulty forming healthy
and stable relationships
2. Toxic Stress Explains How ACEs “Get Under the Skin. "Experiencing
many ACEs, as well as things like racism and community violence, without
supportive adults, can cause what's known as toxic stress. This excessive
activation of the stress response system can lead to long-lasting wear-and-tear
on the body and brain.
3.In their research Felitti et al 4 found that adults who had experienced 4 or
more ACEs showed a 12 times higher prevalence of health risks such as
alcoholism, drug use, depression, and suicide attempts. These findings raised
awareness about the connection between childhood experiences and
outcomes as an adult
