One of my proudest moments in school was when I stepped up to help my friend
host a Dia De Los Muertos Ofrenda at school to showcase our culture and tradition as Mexican American students. At first it was a difficult process to access the hand made paper flowers which are a huge representation of the holiday, but with help from family and friends I was actually able to do them myself and get them to school on time. We reached out to staff and students in order to have their loved ones' pictures on the ofrenda and some even donated fresh flowers, candy, pan dulce, and many other things that truly made the ofrenda come to life. Many students came out to listen to the history behind DIa De Los Muertos and everyone seemed to enjoy the music, dance, and all the dressed up people. Being a Mexican American has never been easy but I would forever want to come back to life as one, the difficulties along the way of life have not defined us, rather they have built us to become the greater versions of ourselves. I’m proud to say that I am a Mexican American that is not afraid to embrace my culture and traditions to the fullest. I know that I can always count on Gabriela to do so as well.
