1. Construct a frequency distribution table.
2. How many number of college students with 4 or less friend requests? 11+1=12
3. How many number of college students with 7 or more friend requests? 28+10=38
1-2 1 0.0125
3-4 11 0.1375
5-6 30 0.375
7-8 28 0.35
9-10 10 0.125
B. The number of faculty listed for a variety of private colleges which offer only bachelors
degrees is listed below. Use these data to construct a frequency distribution with 7 classes, a
histogram, a frequency polygon, and an ogive. Discuss the shape of this distribution. What
proportion of schools have 180 or more faculty?
165 221 218 206 138 135 224 204
70 210 207 154 155 82 120 116
176 162 225 214 93 389 77 135
221 161 128 310
Histogram
The distribution is slightly symmetric, majority of the data value fall around the mean of the
data. The frequency is maximum at 253.5 and minimum at 391.5.
Frequency polygon
In this graph, a point is placed at the midpoint of each interval at a height equal to the
frequency.Typically, the points are connected with straight lines to emphasize the shape of the
data distribution.
Ogive
The points plotted are the upper class limit and the corresponding cumulative frequency.
The sum of all above observation is 4916.
Proportion = 2204÷4916=0.448
The value 0.448 is the proportion of schools that has 180 or more faculty.
C. Construct a frequency distribution and look for an appropriate graph on the following data:
