2 Dear Customer,
Dear Reader,
The current key words in the 21st century are ”Process costs“. ACE offers, with
an extensive range of safety models, a broad pallet of solutions for increased
service life, readily available for machines to lower process costs. According to a
recent study approximately a third of all stoppages necessitate extensive repairs
and identify unexpected damage to machinery.
The installation of ACE safety equipment decrea-
Machine Failures* ses the forces occurring when problems such as,
power failure, programming error, erroneous
maintenance set up switching or other problems occur when in the
initial set-up routine. All elements of the ACE
emergency stops are independent of the power
repair reconditioning supply and are not dependent on any part of the
30,4% machinery that they protect and thus act as an in-
dependent brake system for the respective drives.
*Origin: VDMA, Abt. Bw The clamping elements react in the shortest possible response time by the paten-
ted pneumatic pre-loading of the system of the spring plates in the diaphragm.
These safety systems are permanently operational for the maximum machine
protection.
ACE focusses with this special catalogue on the challenges of this area of appli-
cations for emergency stops and successfully supplements the existing ACE pro-
duct program. The following pages contain the potential to successfully identify
a solution when clamping or braking moving masses. In addition to the proven
SCS33 to 64 and the TUBUS series, ACE shows in these pages the series SCS300
to 650, the newest and smallest generation of safety shock absorbers and with
the innovative ACE LOCKED series L, P and R, the range permits clamping on
machine rails, or piston rods and axis.
Further information on the ACE world of industrial
absorption technology can be found in the current
main catalogue or at the ACE International home-
page under www.acecontrols-int.com.

LOCKED-Series Type L
Safety Clamping for Rail Systems
The chamber between the two flexible spring steel diaphragms is filled with compressed air. The spring plates deform
and the horizontal dimension shortens. This causes the clamp shoe mounting plates to move away from the rail,
releasing the clamps and permitting free movement.
The compressed air in the chamber between the two flexible spring steel diaphragms is released. The spring plates
return to their original position increasing the horizontal dimension. This causes the clamp mounts to move towards
the rail, applying the clamping shoe.

The holding forces as shown in the capacity chart were determined on dry rails for roller systems (STAR, INA). Different holding forces may occur for
other rail systems. Depending on the grease used, calculate with 60% of the indicated holding forces on greased rails. Special pads with full holding
forces for clamping (not braking) on greased rails are available.

• Exceeding the permissible operating pressure may lead to damage of the clamping unit.
• Clamping units are not designed to secure floating loads.
• Dirt, oil, and grease on the surface of the brake plates and the system affect the holding forces.
• Clamping elements may only be used according to technical specifications.
• The chosen compressed air is to be maintained throughout the entire service life.

LOCKED-Series Type P
Pneumatic Rod Clamping
LOCKED-P Released
The chambers between the spring steel diaphragms are
filled with compressed air. The diaphragms are elastically
deformed and at the same time shortened in the radial di-
rection. Since the spring steel diaphragms are slotted in
the inner diameter, the diameter enlarges, the clamping
sleeve springs radially outwards, and the rod is released.
17
LOCKED-P Activated
The air pressure in the chamber between the spring steel
diaphragms is released. The diaphragms spring back into
their normal position. They press the slotted clamping
sleeve against the rod, thereby clamping against it. This
ensures optimum safety clamping.
Models LOCKED-P
Standard model ACE LOCKED-P
The ACE LOCKED-P standard model is the basis for the entire range. The basic function, as described above, is found
in all models. The body dimensions and the bore sizes are designed to suit the individual pneumatic cylinder types.
This model range is highly flexible due to the tiered bore diameters for corresponding rod diameters. In addition this
flexibility is increased by its intelligent modular design. The clamping force can be easily increased by applying several
Issue 10.2007 Specifications subject to change
clamping units together. By arranging "X" number of clamping units between the base and cover plates, "X" times the
clamping force can be obtained.
For the standard model, the corresponding nominal size for the following rod diameters are possible:
The base and cover plates for this model are matched to the flange dimensions of the corresponding ISO cylinders.
Due to the difference with ISO cylinders, this model is constructed larger than the above described model. The corre-
sponding dimensions can be taken from the data sheet on the next page. The middle clamping unit is identical to the
standard model.
Note: The nominal stroke of the applicable ISO pneumatic cylinder is reduced according to the construction length of
the clamping unit. End-of-travel damping is not applicable.
Do not use LOCKED-P clamping elements as positive stop!

Environmental Requirements
The permissible temperature range for each shock
absorber type can be found in our current catalogue.
CAUTION: Useage outside the specified temperature
range can lead to premature breakdown and damage of
of the shock absorbers which can then result in severe
system damage or machine failures.
Trouble free operation outdoors or in damp environments
is only warranted if the dampers are coated with a specific

TUBUS-Series
Overview of Profile Dampers
Physical Properties of TUBUS Profile Dampers ACE TUBUS Profile Dampers are high performance
damping elements made from a special Co-Polyester
Elastomer. They have a high energy absorbing capacity
compared with other materials.
The TUBUS-series comprises 5 main types with over
80 individual models.
The excellent damping characteristics are achieved as
a result of the special elastomer material and the
worldwide patented construction design. This enables
us to change the characteristics of the elastomer
material so that individual and distinct damping cur-
ves are possible.
TUBUS dampers offer a considerable performance
Energy Capacity Operating Lifetime Energy Capacity advantage when compared to other materials such as
per unit weight per unit volume rubber, urethanes (PUR) and steel springs.
Comparison of Damping Characteristics The innovative TUBUS dampers absorb energy while
exhibiting the following damping characteristics:
Model Type TA: Degressive characteristic with max.
energy absorption (coloured area) with min. stroke.
34 TA TC-S
Energy absorption: 40 % to 66 %.
Model Type TS: Almost linear characteristic with low
Force
Stroke
The material does not absorb water or swell and it is highly Special Dampers
