SIM Lock

The Peak Monobore “SIM Lock” system has been developed as a selective system for setting at any
chosen depth inside Monobore type completions, or within Well Bore Tubulars where existing
production Nipples are damaged.

The Running Tool & SIM Lock is run into the well on the end of a conventional Slickline Toolstring.
Once the setting depth has been reached the lock is selectively set by activating Serrated Tubing
Slips via a J-Slot mechanism and drag springs within the Running Tool.

This is achieved by the operator stopping the winch slightly deeper than the required Lock setting
depth, Then simply pulling back on the winch controls to pick up the Toolstring & stopping at the
selected setting depth. Once the operator sits back down again the J-Slot will activate the slips
preventing the Lock and Running Tool from traveling back down the hole. At this stage, if the
Operator wishes to alter the setting position, the tool depth can be adjusted by picking back up on
the winch controls. The J-Slot will rotate allowing the slip mechanism to retract. The depth the
locking system relies upon expanding slips activated by mechanically jarring down with Spang
Jars. If the SIM Lock is run in conjunction with a Sealing Element; the Element is also compressed
at this Jarring down stage to seal against both the Tubing Wall and the inner Element Mandrel.
Once the Operator is satisfied that there has been sufficient jarring down then a “Check Pull” is
applied. If the Check Pull is satisfactory then the Running Tool is released and retrieved by Jarring
upwards. A Tell Tale Shear Pin on the Running will confirm that the SIM Lock is correctly set.

As an option the SIM Lock can also be set in conjunction with most readily available Pyrotechnically
activated setting tools (Baker, Owen, Halliburton…) with the use of either Electric line or a Slickline
Initiator Firing System.

Applications
Installation of a retrievable Straddle System to isolate / shut off unwanted water producing zones.
Suspending Gauges anywhere within the Tubing as the Ported “Bomb Hanger” version.
Well bore isolation as a mechanical barrier along with an equalizing facility as the SIM Plug version.
Installation of an internal annulus section to extend a wells Gas lift Well fluid from below the upper production packers or to reach
receding Fluid levels.
Downhole choke or Pump Open assembly
Tubing stop

Features
Debris Catcher Sub option for Equalising Prong version
High temp setting element.
Sour service sealing & metal components
Large “Through Bore” when used in Straddle applications reducing down hole “Choke” effect.
High temperature rating.
Interchangeable components for adapting generic SIM Lock assembly to suit Multiple Applications.

Benefits
Choice of Varying Drag Spring configurations to suit operating in High angle wells.
Multiple setting options – mechanically or pyrotechnically.
Simplistic Lock design with all major working components paced within the Running Tool.
