THE SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS is the SPIRIT of WORSHIP - WISE

WORSHIP | (Matthew 2: 1- 23)

>Magi- astrologers: study the stars; highly respected


- they haven been of Jesus’ birth story
- Melchor, Baltazar, Gaspar
-presents: Gold (rare and expensive) kingship; Myrrh (expensive oil) Divinity;
frankincense (expensive perfume) Son of God => because of these gifts, they are
seen as kings

*1st event: The Visit of Magi (v. 1 – 12)


1.Believe God and His words (prophets spoken events) ->wise
2.Sought Jesus (v. 2) – awareness of child’s kingship (Jesus’ Kingship)
3.Proclaiming about Jesus (v. 3 – 8), enemies will be disturbed, since they’re
disturbed, they’ll to something to stop us from it – deceiving (application of
heavenly wisdom as our wise worship) v. 9 – wisemen continued following the
star, so are we, continue following God’s leading, Holy spirit’s leading
4.Recognized the worth of Christ and humbled themselves to worship Jesus
(v. 10 – 11)
6.Obeyed God rather than men (v. 9, v. 12)

*2nd event: The Escape from Egypt (v. 13 – 18)


1. Wisdom seen as Obedience to God’s leading (v. 13 -14)
2. Wisdom seen as Awareness of prophecies being fulfilled (v. 15, v. 17-18)

*3rd event: The Return to Nazareth (v. 19 – 23)


1. Wisdom seen as Obedience to God’s leading (v. 19 -21)
2. Wisdom seen as Overcoming the fear through trusting God’s leading (v. 22)
3. Wisdom seen as Awareness of prophecies being fulfilled (v. 23)

WISE WORSHIP:

>Awareness of Who God is, His works, His plans, His wills, etc.
-SO NOT TO BE DECEIVED!
>Humble enough to obey all His teachings and commands (written in the Bible)
>Humble and Obedient
>Discerning (sharp) of His leadings (prophecies being fulfilled)
-Panagpaidalan ken Apo, panagpaituray kn Apo (self-denial) Isaiah 48:17
>Overcomer of fear(s): Where is God in you? (psalm 27:1) whom shall your fear if God is with
you
>Seeking the intervention of God in all aspects of life: Mental, emotional, physical,
social, spiritual (Proverbs 3:5)
>Generous in offering; Mark 12 :17 (give to God what is for God and for Ceasar’s
what is for Ceasar)
>Rejoicing in His Kingship (psalm 97:1), (1 chronicle 16:31)
>Being a blessing; His instrument of fulfilling His will
>Asking God for His wisdom: James 1:5
