The Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University is one of the renowned Universities of the
country with 3 campuses and affiliated colleges/institutes and examining approximately 56,048
students annually. This was established under the U.P. State Universities Act 1973, in December 1973
by the name of Garhwal University and renamed Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University in
the memory of Late Shri Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna, a distinguished National Leader, in 1989. As a
mark of recognition of its importance and academic achievements, it has been upgraded as a Central
University in January 2009, under the Central Universities Act-2009.
The H.N.B. Garhwal University has its Headquarters at Srinagar - Garhwal, 105 Km. from
Rishikesh on the NH-58 in the wide valley of Alaknanda River, one of the Parent Rivers of the National
River Ganga. It provides a conducive environment for academic pursuit. The overall objective of the
University is to provide high quality education with overall intellectual, academic and cultural
development of the students. The University has set for itself high standard of scholarship. The H.N.B.

https://online.hnbgu.ac.in/ by paying prescribed fee through online mode. Detailed instructions to fill
the application form are also available on the same website.

PATTERN OF ENTRANCE TEST:
Students shall have to appear in written examination consisting of 100 multiple choice question
(MCQs) based on undergraduate syllabus of the concerned subject of this University for post
graduate programs. A candidate can appear in Entrance Test for P.G. programs maximum in three
subjects. Candidates applying for more than one PG programs need to mention it in the application

Each question shall be of 01 mark and there shall be no negative marking.

The students shall be allowed a maximum of two hours time to complete the test.
For diploma/P.G. diploma programs, MCQ question paper shall be based on general knowledge,
current affairs, aptitude and elementary knowledge about the subject.
In case of Advance P.G. Diploma in Environmental Economics and P.G. Diploma in Environmental
Management, MCQ question paper shall be based on the syllabus of M.Sc. Environmental Sciences of
H.N.B. Garhwal University available on the University website.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR APPLICANTS:


A student can appear in entrance test for P.G. courses in maximum of three subjects. For admission
in practical subjects, candidate should have studied at subject at graduation level.
The seats available for the admission in the concerned subject in the department/college in
mentioned in the university prospectus for the session 2024-25.
Those appearing in the final year examinations can also apply, subject to the condition that they
will have to produce their final year result on or before the last date of admission.
Allotment of seats for admission at different campuses of the University shall be at the discretion of
the University and further, the programs to run at these campuses are subject to sufficient
candidates available for admission.
The result of Entrance Exam shall be valid for admission for the current academic session
(2024-25) only.
The medium for written exam will be English for subjects under Schools of Sciences (excluding
Home Science), Life Sciences, Agriculture and Allied Sciences, School of Management, School of
Engineering & Technology, School of Earth Sciences (excluding Geography, Defence Strategic and
Geo Political Studies) and medium for rest of the subjects in other schools will be bilingual,
excluding languages.
No material /information will be sent by post. Students must visit the university website regularly
to know the updates regarding admission schedule, etc.
The candidate should ensure that he/she fulfills the eligibility criteria and other norms mentioned
in this notification on the date of online Registration. Ensuring the eligibility for applying to a
particular programme will be the sole responsibility of the candidate.
The registered email id and mobile number shall be used for the communication process.
Candidates must ensure that mobile no. and e-mail ID provided by him/her are valid and are active.
The mobile no. and e-mail ID must be his/her own. All future communication with the candidate
will take place only through the given email.
Candidates may note that any change in the content of this Information Brochure including
cancellation of test centre/date of conduct of test. Notification relating to conduct of test/display of
provisional key etc. will be made on HNBGU Entrance test portal: (www.hnbgu.ac.in) only. The
candidates are therefore advised to regularly visit the said website for updates.
The format of application is ONLINE and the applicant must take due care while filling up the online
form. The information provided by the applicant in his /her from shall not be changed or altered in
any case. The university shall not be liable for any mistake/error committed by the applicant.
