I
1 Scope of work
Documents cover the method, for bedding and padding with screening material under

the pipeline in accordance with standards and specification. This method ensures

proper support and protection for the pipeline.

2 Basis of Compilation
KIV PL1 - Volume II-Specifications - Civil Works

KIV PL1 - Civil Works -Drawings

3 Preparation
According to the construction drawings, after the excavation has achieved the

required bottom level of trench, the formation level elevations shall be checked by the

surveyor. After confirmation of these elevations the screening material or any other

suitable material as approved by the Engineer will be used to prepare the bedding and

padding layer. Slight compacted for bedding material, Water will be used if Padding

Material will reach the position of 8/4 a clock.

4 Manpower
According to site situation, 4~6 groups along pipeline will be arranged for screening

material. One foreman , two labour and one HSE supervisor of each groups should be
present at site.

5 Equipment
The equipment used for each group is shown in below table .

7. Construction Technology

7.1 Laying of Bedding Material

As per the current site condition, there have two different scenarios for the

construction of bedding layer for the Pipe.

Firstly, the bedding layer to be placed from formation level.

Secondly, Methodology of removal of S2 bedding and padding material refer to

CHEC-AFI/PL1-MS-024.

The access road to trench will be made between the existing access road and trench at

every 500m to 1000m depending on site condition, then the bedding material will be

transported to the bottom of trench through Loader & dumper.

500m~1000m(Depends on site condition)

Bedding Bedding

Bedding material will be laid on the formation level and it will be spread using loader

or grader. Sticks will be installed at the edges and center of the trench at a distance of

20m each. Elevation will be marked on these bamboo sticks. Initially elevation of

bedding material will be controlled by referring to elevations marked on these sticks.

Stone, Debris, weeds, etc. will be removed after placing and spreading the bedding

material. Manually labor will be used with picking tools to remove any unwanted

material from the layer. Stones of bigger size will also be removed from the top

surface of the bedding layer. Slightly compacted for bedding material. Surveyors will

11
be used to check the final elevation of the bedding layer.

In areas where S2 material for bedding or padding has been placed, screened material

will be fulfilled after removing existing S2 Material, the Methodology of removal of

S2 bedding and padding material refer to CHEC-AFI/PL1-MS-024.

7.2 Laying of Padding Material

The padding layer will laid around the MS Pipes as per the drawings, the padding will

be prepared in layers of 20-30cm. Screened material or borrowed material

(Permission by consultant) will be used for padding layer as directed by Engineer.

Padding material from stockpile will be transferred to site using dumpers and loaders.

Loader or excavator will be used to place the material inside the trench. Stone, debris,

weeds etc. will be removed after placing and spreading if any, for each layer

saturation (hydraulic) method or plate compaction method will be used for

compaction.

8 QA/QC management
Screening in-situ or borrow material shall be checked by engineer, all corresponding

documentation data or other written information will be recorded and maintained in

file. Before any preparation or execution of the work, ICRF will be submitted to the

consultant.
