 INTRODUCTION
Vikas Bhawan is a prominent government office building in India, typically found in various states or districts
across the country. The name "Vikas Bhawan" translates to "Development Building" in English, indicating its
role in administrative and developmental activities. These buildings often house government departments and
offices responsible for various aspects of governance, such as urban development, rural development,
infrastructure, planning, and other related functions.

Vikas Bhawans serve as central hubs for coordinating and implementing government policies and programs
aimed at socio-economic development, infrastructure improvement, and overall progress. They facilitate
interdepartmental coordination, policy formulation, and execution of developmental initiatives at the
grassroots level.

The specific functions and departments housed within a Vikas Bhawan may vary depending on the jurisdiction
and administrative structure of the region. However, their overarching objective remains consistent: to drive
progress and development within their respective areas of responsibility.

Basically Vikas Bhawan and its department ensures proper implementation of welfare schemes at district and
rural level which are made at national and state level .

Aligarh Vikas Bhawan precides over 867 gram panchayats and 12 developmental blocs.

This department reports directly to CDO –Chief Development Officer centrally appointed for each district and
it also reports to State Rural development department.

This department deals with economic and social development of rural areas so it can be considered to fall
under the category of social equity in terms of sustainability.

In following section we will evaluated sustainability measures of vikas bhawan using a standard template. The
areas which aren’t of concern are marked as non- applicable.
