LOVE
song by: HONNE
About the
Artist
Honne is an English electronic music duo formed in
2014 in Bow, London, consisting of James Hatcher
(producer) and Andy Clutterbuck (singer, producer).
Their name “HONNE” is a Japanese word meaning “true
feelings”. The pair met while attending school in their
hometown of Hull and began producing music together
in the summer of 2014. Their music style is considered
as “Alternative/Indie”. Their songs are mostly based on
their personal experiences and use the theme of
“romance at night time” in producing their music.
FREE LOVE
The song tells about the dream life of a couple who fantasizes
about having their dream house perched on a hill, complete
with a lovely view in front of their dream home, gorgeous
white or soft green fences, trees in the yard, and a pet dog.
However, the protagonist knows they can't afford it. Instead,
he offers his partner free love and imagines a place where they
can be free together with kids, even though they might not be
able to afford everything they want. The chorus repeats the
idea that although he can't give his partner all the material
things she might want, he can give her his love which is
enough.
FREE LOVE
The song tells us that, there is more to love than being able
to give your loved ones material things such as those that
are being described in the first lines of the song. Material
things such as the dream house the couple in the song
fantasizes about, cost millions and probably billions, but the
gift of love is immeasurable, it doesn't cost anything, not
even a single penny, as the song's title suggests, love is
costless and unconditional, yet even so, it remains the most
priceless and valuable gift you could ever give to someone
you love or who matters most in your life.
In relation to our topic
Triangular Model of
love
Triangular model of love, as it implies, the three interlocking
dimensions, Passion, Intimacy, and Commitment must exist to
form a consummate love. In the song, we could say that the
couple undoubtedly displays consummate love, there is passion,
intimacy, and most especially, commitment. In the lyrics, it says
“Imagine a place where we can be free, there's no one for miles,
it's just you and me. We might have kids, maybe three, But
twins could be cool, that would do it for me”. These statements
convey their sincere desire to be committed to each other and to
have a lasting and genuine love while they work toward starting a
family.
Love Language
that is present in the song
Receiving/Giving gifts: in the song, the protagonist makes it seem
as though he's sincerely committed to granting his partner
everything they could ever want as a token of his appreciation and
love for her. However, as he stated, "I can't give you all that stuff,
but I can give you all my love," he was unable to fulfill his dream
to give her everything; all he could offer were those simple things
and his unwavering love. It also shows that receiving/giving gifts as
a form of love language is not limited to tangible or material
objects. Intangible things like genuine affection, quality time, and
loyalty may also be offered as gifts, and truly, we could say that
these kinds of gifts are definitely more memorable, and if you
genuinely love someone, you will realize that what you feel matters
more than anything you can buy.
Types of LOVioEnate
Romantic and Compan
It is important to know that love may take on
both forms in a relationship; one can have
romantic and companionate love for the same
person. The general types of love, romantic and
companionate are also depicted in the song. The
song links a deeper sense of commitment and trust
with a kind of love that is companionate. For its
romantic aspect, the song conveys a feeling of
passion, excitement, and attraction.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the song serves as a reminder of what true
love is—a love that explores the notion of finding
contentment and satisfaction in life's simplicity rather than
depending on material belongings and social expectations.
The song emphasizes that worldly items, for some people,
may or may not genuinely offer contentment,
acknowledging that this idealized image may only be a
dream or fantasy for some people in a relationship, but
that doesn't change the fact that love is an innermost
feeling that is always present in a person's heart regardless
of how much or what kind of material possessions they
have.
