Dear Nupur and all participants, Thanks for your mail.

I will give an idea of the kind of questions in the exam on the Preston case. The Preston case runs like a story of (1) How a plant supplying a critical product to a world class company (HP) (that had a very different level of perception and expectations about quality, and were very demanding in that sense) had some jolting and revealing learning experiencesin relation to the approaches they employed in pursuit of quality, (2) How these led them to confront, on the quality front, the issues faced at their root cause levels, and to truly appreciate the real task they needed to adopt, (3) How they undertook, in a highly determined, optimistic, and confident way a time-bound task to forestall threatened closure of the plant, and (4) How the enlightened approach they adopted to enhancing quality (as a result of the learning experience they went through because of the demanding customer) ultimately paid off, with the story providing a moral, for any company, on the strategic importance (in the prevailing competitive environment) of pursuit of quality at the most basic, root cause levels. If you think on and understand the case in the above sense, you will be able to answer the questions asked in the exam. You may note that, out of a total of 30 marks for Part II of the exam paper, the questions based on the Preston case will carry 12 1/2 marks. All remaining questions will carry 17 1/2 marks. As requested by some of the participants, I am attaching herewith a Sample question paper for the above 17 1/2 marks part. With regards, N.
