Calculus first quarter had been quite an adventure. Rates of change and the accumulation of
quantities are the focus of the mathematical field of calculus. It offers a potent foundation for
comprehending and analyzing numerous concepts, which greatly aided my comprehension of how to
use these in practical situations. When I originally believed it would be a difficult and uninteresting
subject, I was proven incorrect when I discovered several topics that were actually understandable and
engaging for someone who is not particularly fond of math-related subjects. It altered the way I
looked at things. Since I used to think of numbers and equations as a hassle, calculus has actually
slightly changed the way I view them. I'm pretty astonished that I now get excited when I manage to
solve problems correctly. Of course, I still struggle with the majority of topics, but at least I enjoyed
some of them. This quarter, we learned about conic sections, distance between two points, equations
of lines, graphing lines, understanding parallel and perpendicular lines, and calculating the distance
between a point and a line.

Conic Sections
It entails investigating the characteristics and equations of the shapes that result from the intersection
of a plane and a cone, such as circles, ellipses, parabolas, and hyperbolas. This made it easier for me to
comprehend algebraic relationships and basic geometric shapes.

Distance Between Two Points


Understanding the distance formula was necessary to learning about the distance between two points
in a Cartesian coordinate system. This foundational idea taught coordinate systems and geometric
relationships, and it prepared us for more complex mathematical concepts by having applications in
geometry, problem-solving in the real world, mathematical modeling, and more.

Equation of a Line
To comprehend linear equations, which depict interactions between variables in a straight line, it is
essential to study the equation of a line. You can discover what slope, y-intercept, graphical
representation, and how to resolve linear equation systems are.

Parallel and Perpendicular Lines
I gained knowledge of, practice with, and proficiency with perpendicular lines that meet at right
angles and parallel lines that never overlap. Their slopes and equations are important for problem-
solving and applications in areas like mathematics, architecture, and navigation.

Distance Between a Point and a Line


Understanding the shortest distance between a point and a line segment, particularly when the line is
represented by an equation, comes from studying the distance between a point and a line.

So much was learned this quarter, despite the difficulties we faced. But along the way, I have learned
a lot from this subject, and I am delighted about that.
