INTRODUCTION

Student Internship Program in the Philippines (SIPP), also known as on-the-job

Training (OJT) occurs in the work place. A program that will provide the students an

opportunity to complement their formal learning with practical knowledge, skills, and

desirable attitudes. It is also their chance to enhance them and gain hands on experience in

recognized Host Training Establishment (HTE). As part of the curriculum, colleges and

universities must require their students to undergo an internship within a specific number of

hours.

As for the students, they should choose the best company in line with their chosen

career that they think would help them develop their formal learnings and show the reality

about working. These experiences may serve as an edge when seeking job in the near

future.

The trainee chose an institution where he is able to practice his knowledge. The

chosen HTE is responsible to make sure the safety of the trainee during training period. By

the training provided by the institution and with the knowledge that the student acquired from

the university, the trainee will be prepared to face the real world of working.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDENT

Due to the continuous changing of the economy, it is quite risky for a company to hire

a recent graduate without knowing their skills. Therefore, the talents, skills, and experience

are needed in order to benefit both the company and the workers. Thus, this became the

reason behind the growth of applied learning and internship opportunities becoming a key

part of the college experience for all students.

Student internship programs are a great way to apply the knowledge from the

classroom to real-world experience. Learning is one thing, but taking those skills into the

workforce and applying then is a great way to explore different career paths and

specializations that suit individual interests.

Having an internship gives the students experience in the career field they want to

pursue. It may also give the students an edge over other candidates when applying for jobs

as well as to prepare them for what to expect in their field and increases confidence at work.

This may benefit the students in the working environment and build some professional

connection as well. Internships provide a great opportunity to meet professionals in the field

they wanted to pursue.

Skills, such as communication, leadership, problem-solving, and teamwork can all be

Learned through an internship and utilized beyond that experience. This may also benefit the

company as they get to trained well personally their future professionals.

Significance of the Student Internship Program

On-the-Job Training is a part of a college curriculum designed to educate and orient

students about the current and future jobs. It is a sort of skill development in which a worker

learns how to do the job by doing it. It can also provide a career path for someone employed

or not employed, and needs to learn new skills. To launch a career as a recent graduate,

gaining job experience is crucial. It is best to begin accumulating experience as soon as

possible for the students' resume. Working experience is not just limited to office jobs at big

companies. An intern can work at a small business or freelance 3 to get experience. Any

experience which utilized transferable talents for the future work is a great asset to the

resume. By showcasing the capabilities that are pertinent to and transferrable to the position

the students are seeking for, it can help them show an employer the devotion and abilities.

One of the finest ways to acquire that crucial work experience is through an internship.

Employment plays a significant role in the economy of the country. It is necessary to have a

great platform to practice the profession, broaden the knowledge, obtain real-world

experience, and decide to pursue a certain career by participating in an internship. It is an

excellent learning curve for young graduates and students while meeting new people and

making connections in the professional world. It is really important to have an internship

before graduating to college because it prepares many students for finding the right track

that could make a big impact on their future employment.

THE TRAINING EXPERIENCE

Task Performed/Specific Task Assigned

Cestpro Quantity Surveying, which offers QS assessment and design of various electrical

and civil facilities, engaged me to work for them. We use the Planswift software to compute,

evaluate, and deliver accurate estimating for our esteemed clients as we design the wirings

and estimate them. The company is situated at the 3F CRDM Building. General Mariano

Alvarez Boulevard and Governor's Drive, Brgy. Gavino Maderan, Cavite 4117. From March

17, 2023, until July 07. 2023, we served as an OJT trainee for the electrical department. My

working hours were 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, in the year 2023. We work

in the electrical engineering department, whose primary goals are to analyze and plan the

wiring for a certain electrical output. I was given the responsibility of estimating projects for

our clients as a Trainee QS. Although there isn't an ideal job, with dedication and hard work,

it can act as a stepping stone and give students experience working in a professional

environment. He will be able to finish my internship thanks to a lot of upcoming alternatives,

even if there were numerous unfortunate things that happened throughout the internship.

most frequently. Two very essential things an internship may offer are the chance to build

new skills and knowledge. experience in their field of expertise. An internship position is

supposed to deliver chances for instruction. Because it's vital to work in a range of contexts

for a beneficial experience, having a training space allowed the students to exercise their

capacity to adjust to the professional environment. Throughout this internship, I was

permitted to work in person rather than digitally, and I believe that this has increased his

comprehension of and awareness of being a skilled worker. The knowledge he provided was

incredibly helpful for me to perform my obligations whenever I'm out in the field, and it

helped me grow my professionalism and patience in order to avoid problems. I realized how

valuable my education had been. is just a stepping stone to get him ready for the future,

considering I've learned that there are no boundaries to learning and that working in the field

will unquestionably benefit me as I grow and learn more about my chosen career path. Every

skill acquired during the on-the-job training program will surely be useful to the students in

their chosen vocations in the near future. It substantially contributes to keeping many

students' knowledge up to date so they can apply it soon in the future, particularly during

these challenging times when many schools are finally returning to normal.

PROBLEM ENCOUNTERED

Since the on-the-job training was held and conducted through face to face plotform,

we experience some difficulty on adjusting our time management system. Compared to last

few sems we took online plotforms more convenient due to the fact some of us students are

also working by means of having a partime job to sustain our studies. As for me as of now im

in the middle of adjustment especially to my time management. Second is that the place we

took ojt at is to far away we always experience some late attendance scenario due to heavy

traffic in our city border between dasma and GMA.

SOLUTIONS

It is never easy for some students to adjust in this kind of situation. In order to meet

the requirements and attend the On-the-Job Training, the students must adjust their

schedule as much as possible. Luckily our leader/boss is so understanding to the fact even if

we late we still get some incentive points of time to him due to he knows and understand our

situation as a working students. Me and morgan are one of that as we work after ojt until

midnight.

OVER-ALL REFLECTION

On-the-job training are more difficult than we expected not for the work but for the

time management we intake as a student and a partime worker. We experience some

difficulties only on our time management. For our learnings we learned many thing in this

industry for we have background knowledge in some areas especially in wiring diagram.

On-the-Job Training made an impact on students not just on nourishing them with the

new abilities and skills in the workplace but also in real-life situations and challenges. The

conducted OJT taught the students to embrace the challenges in life and the inevitable

advance and growth in life. It also unleashed skills and talent that students have hidden

inside them.

Trainees really look forward to this narrative because it allows them to state their

feelings, thoughts, and feedbacks about the conducted OJT experience. Moreover, this

narrative will help the professors and those who will conduct OJT to further improve the

quality of education they will offer to future students. Nonetheless, the student experienced a

wonderful, fun, and truly and educational OJT.
