i) Content- refers to the language that has been used in the message.
ii) Process: refers to the way the message is delivered.
iii) Context: refers to the situation/environment in which the message is delivered.
Ans. The content of a message is important because sometimes even a simple message can be
misunderstood because words have different meanings depending on the context. So for effective
communication it is necessary to use proper sentences and correct words.
Ans. The 7 C’s of communication are: Clear, Concise, Concrete, Correct, Coherent, Complete and
Courteous.
Unit I- Ch 5: Basic Writing Skills
Ans. A phrase is a group of words that forms a unit within a sentence but is incomplete independently.
i) Noun phrase-act like noun in sentence. Example: We all love watching movies.
ii) Verb phrase- group of main verbs and helping verbs within a sentence. Example: He was eager to go
out.
iii) Adjective phrase- built around an adjective and consists of adjectives and/or articles. Example: The
final exams were unbelievably difficult.
iv) Adverbial phrase- built around an adverb by adding word before/after it. Example: We walked very
carefully across the floor.
v) Prepositional phrase- begins with preposition and is followed by a noun. Example: The book was on
the table.
Ans. The definite article, ‘the’ can be used with both countable nouns(singular as well as plural) and
uncountable nouns. It is used when the noun that follows is already known.
‘an’ performs similar function as ‘a’. it is used before singular countable noun which begin with a
vowel sound (a,e,i,o,u).
Unit II- Ch 6: Stress Management and its Techniques
1. What is stress?
Ans. Stress can be defined as a reaction to any external stimuli that triggers changes in one’s
personality.
Ans. Some of the factors that can contribute to stress are threat, dangerous situation, irrational
demands, unrealistic goals, expectations, financial loss, bad experiences, discrimination etc.
Ans. Stress management allows a person to react positively in stressful situations. It infuses a sense of
control and accomplishment and equips us with the ability to handle any situation efficiently.
Ans. It makes people more independent as it enables them to make the right decision about their
behaviour. It teaches them how to behave in different situations without any guidance.
4. Define self-regulation.
Ans. Self-regulation is the ability to understand and manage your reaction to the things happening
around you. Developing this ability requires self-awareness, emotional intelligence, efficient filtering of
sensory stimulation, coping effectively with stress, relating well to others, and sustaining focus.
