November 2020

• On 1 November 2020, Super Typhoon Rolly the world’s most powerful tropical
cyclone that year, brought torrential rains, violent winds, mudslides and storm surges
to Luzon.
• The typhoon, left extensive destruction and damage in its path affecting 2 million
people in 8 of the country’s 17 regions.
• This was quickly followed by Tropical Storms Sion and Tony that struck Luzon and
Visayas from 5 to 8 November.
• Then Category-4 Typhoon Ulysses swept through central Luzon on 11 and 12
November, flooding tens of thousands of homes in Manila’s low-lying suburbs while
causing floods and landslides in the country’s northern, agricultural provinces of
Cagayan and Isabela.
December 2021
• Super typhoon Odette hit the Philippines on December 18, 2021.
• It was the 15th typhoon of the year and made a total of nine landfalls.
• Odette strengthened from a Category 1 to 5 typhoon in just one day making it difficult
for people to prepare for the arrival of the storm or to evacuate.
• The typhoon’s intensity increased by 130 Kph in just 24 hours.
Typhoon Agaton
• Tropical storm Again emanated from the Pacific Ocean
• Stayed in Leyte Gulf for sometime
• Had two landfalls, one in Calicoan Island in Guiuan, Eastern Samar and another in
Basey, Samar
• Heavy rains brought about flash floods and massive landslides in the Visayas
• Casualties: 214 deaths, 132 missing, and numerous persons injured
Super Typhoon Karding
• Low Pressure Area to Tropical Depression then into Tropical Storm on the same day
• It became a Severe Tropical Storm then into a Typhoon then into a Super Typhoon
within 24 hours.
• Rapid Intensification or Explosive Intensification
• Firat landfall in Burdeos, Quezon then Dingalan, Aurora
• Lashed Nueva Ecija, Tarlac and Zambales
Severe Tropical Storm Paeng

• Affected at least 4 million people • Left 154 dead and 35 missing

Severe Tropical Storm Paeng
• Aside from the development of STS Paeng in the eastern border of the country,
another weather system, the shearline, affected the country at the same time.
• The shearline, also known as the tail end of the frontal system, occurs when two
fronts or air masses that differ in properties (temperature and humidity) meet caused
an increase in the number of thunderstorms and heavy rain in the affected areas.
