750 1500 1600 11 000 12 500
7000 9500 1200 13 500 1400
Find the 75thpercentile.
The weights of the students in a class are the
following: 69, 70, 75, 66, 83, 88, 66, 63, 61, 68,
73, 57, 52, 58, and 77.
Compute the 15th percentile.
Mr. Mel Santiago is the sales manager of
JERRY’S Bookstore. He has 40 sales staff
members who visit college professors all over the
Philippines. Each Saturday morning, he requires
his sales staff to send him a report. This report
includes, among other things, the number of
professors visited during the previous week.
Listed below, ordered from smallest to largest, are
the number of professors visited last week.
38, 40, 41, 45, 48, 48, 50, 50, 51, 51,
52, 52, 53, 54, 55, 55, 55, 56, 56, 57,

66, 67, 67, 69, 69, 71, 77, 78, 79, 79

Answer Key:
1. The 75th percentile is 8875.
2. The 15th percentile is 57.40.
3. a. The 3rd quartile is 66.
b. The 9th decile is .76.40.
c. The 33rd percentile is 53.53
C. Presenting examples/ Consider this data: 18, 42, 20, 23, 40, 28, 15, 33,
Instances of the Lesson 35 and 2. What is 30th percentile or P 30? P25?
P75?
D. Discussing new The steps in computing the median are similar to
concepts and practicing new that of Q1 and Q3. In finding the median, we first
skills need to determine the median class. In the
same manner, the Q1 and the Q 3 class must be
determined first before computing for the value of
Q1 and Q 3. The Q1class is the class interval where
𝑁
the [ ] 𝑡ℎscore is contained, while the class interval
4
3𝑁
that contains the [ ]thscore is the Q3 class.

In computing the quartiles of grouped data, the

following formula is used:
Grade 10 Mathematics
Quarter IV Day 4 Lesson Plan
𝑘𝑁
− 𝑐𝑓
𝑄𝑘 = 𝐿𝐵 + ( 4 )𝑖
𝑓𝑄𝑘
Where:
𝐿𝐵 = 𝑙𝑜𝑤𝑒𝑟 𝑏𝑜𝑢𝑛𝑑𝑎𝑟𝑦 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑄𝑘 𝑐𝑙𝑎𝑠𝑠
𝑁 = 𝑡𝑜𝑡𝑎𝑙 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝑞𝑢𝑒𝑛𝑐𝑦
𝑐𝑓𝑏 = 𝑐𝑢𝑚𝑢𝑙𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑣𝑒 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝑞𝑢𝑒𝑛𝑐𝑦 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑐𝑙𝑎𝑠𝑠
𝑏𝑒𝑓𝑜𝑟𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑄𝑘 𝑐𝑙𝑎𝑠𝑠
𝑓𝑄1 = 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝑞𝑢𝑒𝑛𝑐𝑦 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑄𝑘 𝑐𝑙𝑎𝑠𝑠
𝑖 = 𝑠𝑖𝑧𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑐𝑙𝑎𝑠𝑠 𝑖𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑣𝑎𝑙
𝑘 = 𝑛𝑡ℎ 𝑞𝑢𝑎𝑟𝑡𝑖𝑙𝑒

This means we need to find the class interval where

the 25th score is contained

Note that the 19th-27th scores

belong to the class interval: 31-35. So,
the 25th score is also within the class
interval.

The Q2 class is the class interval 31-35.

E. Discussing new concepts and
practicing new skills #2
F. Developing Mastery Activity:
(Leads to formative Think-Pair-Share
assessment 3) Instruction: The students must be divided
into two groups, the group of tutees (Average
Learners) and the tutors (Advanced
Learners). Every member will be paired up in
this activity and answer the designated
questions each and discuss the process as
well as the final answer to their partner
afterwards.

Therefore, the 7th decile is equivalent to the 70th

percentile. Therefore, 70% of the students got a score
less than or equal to 39.14.
Finding percentiles of a grouped data is similar to
that of finding quartiles and deciles of a grouped data.
The kth percentile, denoted by P k, is computed as
follows:

where:

LB = lower boundary of the kth percentile class

N = total frequency
cfb = cumulative frequency before the percentile class
fpk = frequency of the percentile class
i = size of class interval
k = nth percentile where n= 1, 2, 3,…, 97, 98, and 99

J. Additional activities for Group Activity
application or remediation Instructions: Create a group with 20 members.
Use students to represent members. Arrange
the students according to their height, answer
the following questions and present it to class .
(50 pts.)

Illustration:
You are the fourth tallest person in a group of 20

What if 80% of students are shorter than you?

What does it mean?
Answer Key:
It means you are at the 80th percentile.
And If your height is 1.85m then "1.85m" is the 80th
percentile height in that group.
