Spring 2024
SPOTLIGHT SEEKERS STUDENT HANDBOOK
SPRING 2024
1. AT T ENDANCE
-School: If a student is absent from school, they may not attend practice or a
performance on the same day. If a student is checked out from school for a scheduled
appointment and misses less than half the school day, they may attend practice or a
performance the same day.
-Rehearsals: Students are expected to arrive at rehearsal by 3:30 each day of rehearsal.
Rehearsals will be in Ms. Massey’s room (404) unless otherwise announced or noted on the
schedule. If a student is going to be absent from a rehearsal, a parent or guardian is expected
to email Ms. Massey (shelby.massey@kosciuskoschools.com) before the start of rehearsal. Failure
to do so will result in a “strike” for the student. If a student needs to leave early from any
rehearsal, he/she will need to get permission from Ms. Massey before the day of rehearsal.
-Technical Week(s) & Performances: All students are expected to be in attendance at every
rehearsal during the technical week(s) and all performances for the duration of the scheduled
rehearsal. These dates are noted on your rehearsal calendar. Failure to be in attendance, except
for a valid doctor’s note or family emergency, may result in the student forfeiting their part in
the show.
-If you have a conflict: It is important that after letting Ms. Massey know, you arrange a
time to relearn anything you missed. It is your responsibility to get caught up on things missed
before the next rehearsal.

2. AUDIT IONING AND CAST ING

–All students participating in Spotlight Seekers will participate in auditions. See the schedule
for the date & location.
-Casting will be made by a team decision. Casting emails will be sent to parents before the
next rehearsal and the Cast List will be announced during the next rehearsal. The casting email
will let you know if the student has been cast, and if they have, the part they have been
assigned.
-The following items are factored into casting a play: attendance, memorization, attitude,
respect, enthusiasm, and chemistry with other cast members.
3. BEHAVIOR & AT T IT UDE
-All students are expected to understand that being a member of Spotlight Seekers is a
privilege, and are expected to set an example for other students to follow. Members of the show
are expected to follow the rules and expectations of their schools, bus drivers, teachers, and
Spotlight Seekers directors.
4. COMMUNICAT ION
- With many parents needing information, all Spotlight Seekers communications will be
made via email and Remind text messages. All students are expected to have a parent or
guardian signed up to receive emails and a phone number assigned to the Remind account.
- Email addresses and phone numbers for Remind for each student will be included on
their information sheet & audition form. Please include a working email and phone number that
you check regularly.
5. ELECT RONICS
-We know that many students have cell phones, tablets, and other electronic devices in
their backpacks. However, no student is permitted to have any electronic device out of his/her
bookbag during any rehearsal.
-If a student is caught with an electronic device out of his/her book bag, the device will
be collected by a Spotlight Seekers director, must be picked up by a parent or guardian, and will
result in a “strike” for the student.
6. GRADES
-All Spotlight Seekers students are expected to remember that school comes first! If a
student has a failing grade in any of their classes, they will be suspended from Spotlight
Seekers until the grade improves.
-If this suspension lasts more than two weeks, and is impeding the progress of the show,
the student may be asked to step down from his/her role in the play.
7. PARENT MEET INGS
- We will have several parent meetings for each production. These parent meetings are
listed on the production calendar you received.
- A parent or guardian for each student is expected to attend each meeting. If you are
unable to attend, please contact Ms. Massey prior to the meeting to make sure you receive all
the information that will be shared at the meeting.
8. PARENT VOLUNT EERS
- A production requires lots of hands and help! See the volunteer options below. Please
sign up for at least one if you can.
- Snacks during hair & makeup time on performance days
- Hair & Makeup before performances
- Set production
- Prop Collection & Organization
- Costume Collection & Organization
- Program Assembly
- Student Carpool to the Skipworth PAC (the last two weeks)
9. PICKUP
- Your teachers love that we get to provide this opportunity for your students, but we
expect that all students are picked up on time after each rehearsal. Pick-up times are noted on
the rehearsal schedule.
- Failure to pick up your student on time will result in a “strike” for your student.
10. PRACT ICE
- Our rehearsals are only an hour and a half long (tech week practices may vary, see
schedule). Your student will be expected to memorize lines, blocking, and cues on their own time.
Deadlines for memorization will be strictly observed.
- Memorization is much easier with a partner’s assistance. Therefore, we encourage you
to aid your child in this process whenever possible.
11. FUNDRAISER
- The Spotlight Seekers will hold a “FIll the Calendar” fundraiser to raise funds for the
club. We strive to keep the Spotlight Seekers free for all students so this fundraiser is vital to
our success. The money raised from this fundraiser will provide each student with their binder &
script, costume, show shirt & club shirt. These funds will also pay for the licensing for the
musical and any other expenses that arise.
12. T HREE ST RIKES
- Spotlight Seekers students are on a “3 Strikes” system. A student will be dismissed
from the club or production if he/she gets a total of three strikes.
- The following infractions will count as strikes:
- Not showing up to a rehearsal without an email from a parent or
guardian
- Not being prepared by knowing lines and songs
- Late pickup from practice (more than 15 minutes without notice, or multiple
late pickups)
- An Office Referral that leads to ISR or OSS
-The following infractions will lead to immediate dismissal from Spotlight Seekers:
- Failure to attend a tech week rehearsal or any performance.
- An Office Referral that leads to a transfer to KSD’s Alternative School
