Good evening Doctor

My name is Mulongo Lino a first year student pursuing a bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering
at faculty of applied science and technology Mbarara university.
I come from Entebbe Wakiso district in the central part of Uganda and I came to know about Mbarara
university from my friends. It has always been my dream to study from Mbarara university since it is
the best University in Uganda. This is because of its high quality of education system and service
delivery.
I then came across an advert on the University website calling for all those interested in biomedical
engineering to apply. I had previously been offering a bachelors in medicine from Kampala
international university, but because this course is more promising and involves a lot of research work,
which is my passion, I immediately applied for a placement .
I have very much interest in research and creating better gadgets for improvement of the living status of
people in the community where I live .
I thank you so much for taking us through this course because unlike my previous university where I
have been, your teaching methods are life changing. This is because in the syllabus, we are not being
taught to 'cram, pass and forget' but we are being taught to relate and communicate with one another
the right way which is an essential part of my life and career. I find this course more practical and can
easily relate with it, for example in some of the lectures we were taught how to communicate politely,
why it is important to understand someone even before you react in response to his massage. I have
been in communication skills lectures before but I realised this approach used in your lectures is
unique.
Therefore I expect to not just get a lot of theory from these lectures but to review my way of relating
with others which is a skill in communication. This is because I have started seeing the communication
skills not as something am learning to pass exams but as a very essential skill for the success of my
career and life in general.
I therefore have to confess that my attitude towards communication skills has changed and now I am
always eager to learn something new from every lecture.
Communication skills will help me write documents, be able to speak, present my project proposals,
write applications letters among others.

Though biomedical engineering has a variety of careers in line for me such as repairing machines in the
hospitals, designing machines and modifying them or improving on them which is also a good area to
explore, I am particularly interested in research as I have mentioned before, In neuroscience in
particular and I hope to discover a lot in relation to treatment of complicated neural system related
health complications and diseases that have no treatment like severe nerve injuries, genetic neural
disorders.
I look forward to learning and bettering my life skills in communication, research and innovations. I
know this course has a lot to offer .
