Si Pinkaw NARRATOR (Mayor):

SCENE 1
NARRATOR (Mayor):
He was distracted while taking a nap that
one afternoon because of the loud
shouting and laughter of the children in
the street. He was forced to get up, wipe
off sweat, and look out the window.
“It's Pinkaw…”
He notices she’s swinging by something
in her arm while walking, and also
noticed her appearance.
“Her appearance changed so much.”
BULLY 1:
He shouted, “Hoy Pinkaw!”
BULLY 2:
“Sing that ‘Blak is Blak’.”
BULLY 3:
“Come on Pinkaw!”
PINKAW:
“I’m shy; I don’t want to sing!”
then she sucks her thumb.
BULLY 1:
“If you don’t want to, we will steal
your child…” he jokingly said.
He tried to snatch the thing that Pinkaw
was holding. The woman stepped back
and tightened the hold on the thing she
was holding.
BULLY 1, 2 & 3:
They surrounded Pinkaw and yelled.
BULLY 2:
“Okay, let’s take her child away!”
BULLY 1, 2 & 3:
Then they start laughing hysterically.
NARRATOR (Mayor):
He witnessed Pinkaw stumble, fall, cry,
and kick the ground.
PINKAW:
“Please don't take my child; I'll report
you to Mayor!”
(Pinkaw keeps getting teased by the bullies. Her
cries became more intense.)
bad for Pinkaw. He shouted to the kids.
“Hey kids! All of you are terrible!
Stop teasing her.”
(The children left immediately, terrified by the
fierceness of the yelling.)
(When the kids left, Pinkaw looked him up in
the window.)
PINKAW:
"Mayor, they want to take my child.”
while still sobbing.
NARRATOR (Mayor):
He can't stop to smile.
“She called me a lot of titles, and now
a ‘mayor’?”
(But Pinkaw ignored him.)
NARRATOR (Mayor):
“Stop crying now, Pinkaw. They’re
not going to take your child anymore.”
PINKAW:
After hearing it, Pinkaw smiled.
She continued to swing the thing she was
holding. But suddenly, it fell from her
arms.
(Mayor saw that the thing she's holding is a tin
can that's wrapped in cloth.)
PINKAW:
She immediately picked up and
rewrapped the can.
She started singing while swinging the
can; “Hele, hele, tulog muna, wala rito
ang iyong nanay…”
MAYOR:
“I feel so sorry for Pinkaw; that
tragedy ruined her.”
SCENE 2
(Flashback 1)
PINKAW:
Her previous job was to collect valuable
trash that could be sold to a junk shop.
She got her food in the junk yard—
things that can still be used and sold to
make money.
 In the past, she sang a lot. Her awful
vocals are not charming. Barking dogs
followed her as she pushed her cart
through the muddy, uneven streets.
There is only has one thing to say: she
sings all the time. Her voice is terrible; it
sounds cracked and masculine in tone.
But there is something in her voice;
maybe it's just the loneliness in her tone
while she sings. But she is still happy,
even if the only thing she does is pick up
trash.
Her cart was full of cartons, paper,
bottles, and rags, with a woven bag
slinging on the side of the cart. Inside the
woven bag is her lunch. Some of them
are scrap foods that she picked up from
the trash.
Even if her body is thin, she still
manages to push her heavy cart and sing
Kundiman songs happily.
When she arrived in front of her shack,
she would immediately call her children:
“Poray, Basing, Takoy, I’m here.”
(And as soon as they hear her, her kids run to
her excitedly and start asking her different
things.)
PORAY:
“Mom, did you bring stretchable
jeans?”
BASING:
“Have you brought some food with
you?”
TAKOY:
“Where is Bitsukoy?”
PINKAW:
"Hold on, just one question at a time,
kids." she chuckled.
SCENE 3
(Flashback 2)
(Mayor is leaving the house in the afternoon to
go to work. He told his father, who was having
coffee at the time, that he was heading to work.)
MAYOR:
“Bye, Pa, I'm going to work.”
PAPA:
“Okay, take care.”
(Then Mayor leaves the house.)
(After Mayor left the house, Pisyang Sugarol
knocked on their door.)
PISYANG SUGAROL
“It's Pisyang."
(Mayor's father immediately went and opened
the door.)
PAPA:
“Hi Pisyang, how can I help you?”
PISYANG SUGAROL:
“I have some gossip about Pinkaw.”
PAPA:
“Really? Come inside"
(They went together to the sala, and Pisyang
started the conversation.)
PISYANG SUGAROL:
“So, this is the gossip: first, Pinkaw is
a widow. His last husband died of
epilepsy. Second, her children have
different fathers, but she did not
marry any of them. I swear.” He raised
his right hand to signal that he was
telling the truth.
“Have you seen her children?”
PAPA:
“Yes, those kids playing outside?”
(They both looked outside and saw Poray,
Basing and Takoy playing outside.)
PISYANG SUGAROL:
“Yes, those kids.”
“Did you see that skiny, tall kid?
PAPA:
“Poray?”
PISYANG SUGAROL:
“Yes, he looks like a scarecrow
because of his height.”
“That one kid who has a cleft lip.”
PAPA:
“Basing. What's with him?”
PISYANG SUGAROL:
“Nothing. He just likes to snack sugar
cane.”
PAPA:
“How about Takoy?”
 Pinkaw with her kariton brings all of her
PISYANG SUGAROL: collected plastic bottles, scrap metals, and

“Uhmm, mister, can you please add a

(FLASHBACK)
(Mayor's father led Pisyang Sugarol to their
door and waved to him to say goodbye.) Pinkaw is helping other people happily and is
always visiting church. But one day, while
Pinkaw was picking up trash, she saw his
SCENE 4 neighbor beating his son.
(Flashback 3)
NEIGHBOR:
(Pinkaw and her three sons are helping her on “You're really naughty! I should beat

NEIGHBOR:
(Takoy is about to cry but their mom stopped “I'm allowed to discipline my child

SCENE 5 Then the neighbor threw something at

Pinkaw.

SCENE 7
One day, Pinkaw went home with scrap food
lunch for her family, and they ate together
happily. After Pinkaw and her children ate
lunch, Takoy felt sickness in his stomach.
TAKOY:
He went to his mother while he was in
excruciating pain in his stomach.
“Mom, my stomach hurts so much!”
PINKAW:
She looked at his son worriedly, and he
called Poray and Basing to come and
help Takoy go to the hospital.
Takoy suddenly fainted while Pinkaw was
packing his son's belongings.
PINKAW:
She panicked when her child passed out.
“Takoy!”
They immediately went out to call for help.
PINKAW:
“Help! Please help us!”
She yells for help to everyone that she
encounters in the streets. But nobody
wants to help them.
After a while, she looked at her child. Takoy
doesn't move, but he is still breathing. Even
though it's hard for her, especially in her
situation, she still manages to push Kariton to
her full power for her to be able to save Takoy.
She was fortunate enough to run into Mayor on
the street and help her kid to the hospital.
MAYOR:
He panicked because of the condition of
Pinkaw's family.
“What happened, Pinkaw?”
PINKAW:
“Please help us! I’m begging you!”
MAYOR:
“Okay, we are going to the hospital
right away!
He immediately helped Pinkaw push her
kariton to go to the hospital to save
Takoy.
They arrived at the hospital, and they were
immediately helped by hospital staff.
After getting to the hospital, Takoy passed away
because he was extremely ill.
SCENE 8
Pinkaw's family mourns Takoy's death. Now
they have to pay Takoy's hospital bills. Pinkaw
tried asking everyone she knew for some
money, but none of them were willing to give it
to her.
Because of this, Poray and Basing made the
decision to keep gathering and selling scraps of
trash in order to help their mother.
SCENE 9
(Mayor’s House)
Mayor just got home when suddenly Pisyang
went from them to visit Mayor's father to tell
him something.
PISYANG SUGAROL:
She knocked on their door.
PAPA:
“Coming!”
He opened the door, and he let in
Pisyang to their house.
PISYANG SUGAROL:
“How is your son? I heard that he
helped Pinkaw's the other day.”
MAYOR:
“Im fine.” He shouted from the kitchen.
PISYANG SUGAROL:
“By the way, have you heard what
happened to Poray and Basing?”
Pisyang's words caught Mayor's attention.
PAPA:
“Why? What happened to them?”
MAYOR:
He went to the sala to find out what
happened to the children.
PISYANG SUGAROL:
“Her sons had an accident while
collecting garbage.”
MAYOR:
“What?!”
PAPA:
“How??”

PISYANG SUGAROL:
“Poray accidentally slipped and hit his
head on the rock.”

(Flashback when Poray accidentally slipped)

MAYOR:
“What about Basing? What happened
to him?”

PISYANG SUGAROL:
“There are men who attacked Basing,
beat him, and took everything he had.
He passed away because he was
unable to endure his injuries.”

(Flashback when Basing was attacked)

PAPA:
“Pinkaw's family is very unfortunate.”

MAYOR:
“What about Pinkaw? Is she okay?”

PAPA:
“Well, definitely not. After what
happened to her family? I would go
insane if I were her.”

PISYANG SUGAROL:
“About that, Pinkaw couldn't handle
the pain, and she went completely
insane after what happened to her
family.”

SCENE 10
(Present)

MAYOR:
The mayor heard noises again. He
glanced back out the window. The
naughty kids are back, including Pinkaw.

The kids laughed at her again because she was

swinging the empty can while singing.

PINKAW:
“Hele, hele, tulog muna, wala rito ang
iyong nanay…”
