For my community service project, I wanted to implement something that many people would

benefit from without having to ask for it. My idea was to create a station in the women/s
bathroom filled with menstrual hygiene products. There have been too many times where I
came unprepared to school and did not want to make the trek all the way down to the office for
products. I hated missing class and there was always some embarrassment that went along
with needing help. I instead would try to ask my classmates and hope they had something extra.
This is not okay for young girls to be going through. We should not have to be constantly
missing class and needing to ask for products when we are already in a predicament. I know I
am not the only girl who experiences this feeling, so I instead provided tampons and pads in the
women’s bathrooms to show support and love for all the females on campus. We want our girls
to know that their school cares about them and wants them to feel taken care of.

My project idea came from personal events, but blossomed into something that helped me and
other women. Due to the high prices of hygiene products, I called companies to provide me with
any discount or products. I received a good discount and have been trying to use that to refill. It
surprises me how fast these products run out, seriously, they go so fast. It makes me happy that
it is getting so much use, but I also need to keep checking and refilling.

I feel like this small change will help a lot of girls, and I hope it continues even after I leave
Ripon High.
