DC GENERATORS

A dc generator is an electrical machine that converts mechanical energy to electrical energy.

Problems:

1. A 2-pole duplex-lap dc machine has 400 conductors

in its armature and is driven at 300 rpm. Calculate
the generated emf if the flux is 0.1 Wb.
2. A piece of conductor 10 cm long moves across a
magnetic field of 10,000 gauss at a velocity of 120
cm/sec. What voltage appears across the
conductor?
3. The armature of a given dc machine has a 2-layer
lap winding having 72 slots. What is the number of
commutator segments required if each slot has 2
conductors.
