For my LCAS rotation I chose to visit Tshwane Haven.

It is a children’s home whose main aim is to provide a support structure

to Tshwane Place of Safety Association with speci city in sick children. The type of children that can be accommodated are
severely malnourished children, HIV+ with other problems, TB with other problems, down syndrome, abused and premature
babies as well as children with heart and lung problems. The Haven’s aim is to also provides a secure home environment for
said children. Above and beyond this the Haven provides an overnight shelter facility for the SAP until these children can be
placed with other place of safety parents.
The overall impression and organization of the Haven is of a high quality and is very impressive. They seem to provide a
holistic well maintained schedule for the children. They also provide transportation for the children to attend school. The
hygiene of the Haven is also of utmost quality.

The organization plays an integral healthcare role in the community. All the children that are admitted into the Haven are said to
be given the best medical care that they can a ord. The Haven has also built up numerous contacts with various specialists,
clinics, hospitals, medical supply companies and GPs. The children are taken for general check-ups at Intercare Medical
Centre upon admission. They all attend clinics on a monthly basis for those on HIV and TB treatment. They also attend other
various clinics and have Occupational Therapy sessions as needed.
