POLITICAL CORRECTNESS

1
Hitler would be proud. Next in line would be Pavlov, Freud and anyone ill at
ease with the fact that they are Black, White, Red, Yellow, Irish, Bald, Short, Female,
Male, Greasy Missing a limb Cripple Fat Skinny Pimply Deaf Dumb Blind Italian, Catholic,
Jewish, Muslim, Protestant, Albino, Non-Humorous Too Humorous or Stutters. Perhaps
one who has a big nose, Small nose, has a flat chest or a huge chest is a Blue Eyed Devil,
or is One eyed, has a Big head or too little a Head, etc. Gee, the only person not under at
least one of these categories is Claudia Schiffer, and she has thick ankles--OOPS! Big
butts, No butt, Big dick, Little dick, Innies, Outies, Black Hair, Blond Hair, Jew, Wasp,
Redneck, Damned Yankee, Hick Rebel, White Boy, Chink, Guinea, WOP, Stewardess, Thin
Lipped, Fat Lips, Plates in their Lips, OOPS! There I slipped again. Does that fall under,
too humorous, not humorous, stereotypical, racist or observant with a satirical bent? I
just don't know. Last time I checked we -- as in “We The People” -- lived by and cherished
a little understood premise in America entitled, somewhat cryptically: FREE SPEECH. Not
within limits, bounds or good taste -- seeing as these are terms left open for much
interpretation, primarily by those with the time to interpret and the power to have their
interpretations heard and adhered to. Free. Free as in open, Glasnost, No bounds on
Speech. Say what you will. Speak freely. Open up and let it out, you'll feel better. I
promise. In any event it is evident that political Correctness -- so called -- is first cousin to
Fascism. Its impetus is not overtly fascistic -- oh hold your tongue -- however Fascism is
unfortunately the sad by product of any effort too ACT (as opposed to BE) PC (i.e.
Politically Correct). Much like Bussing -- you can't make people be nicer to each other.
After all that is all Political Correctness is: A Nice Band-aid. Another symptomatic cure
devised to manipulate or salve the western world. An act that cures a symptom but not
the disease that causes it. It is an untrue attempt at doing our best to avoid such
approaches as "Hey towel head, which way to the White House." Which of course brings
us to

DESPAIR

More than any other time in history, mankind faces a crossroads. One path leads to
despair and utter hopelessness, the other, to total extinction. Let us pray we have the
wisdom to choose correctly. Or we’re all going straight to Hell. I find despair, true despair,
not melodramatic or even personal despair such solemn territory I must rely on men of
letters far greater than myself in what must surely be a vain attempt to grasp in words.
Solemn territory perhaps, but common territory and common ground nonetheless.

“Never despair; but if you do, work on in despair.” Edmund Burke.

He who despairs over an event is a coward, but he who holds hope for the human
condition is a fool. Albert Camus.

“He who has never hoped can never despair.” George Bernard Shaw.

“I can't tell if a straw ever saved a drowning man, but I know that a mere glance is enough
to make despair pause. For in truth we who are creatures of impulse are creatures of
despair.” Joseph Conrad.
“Tenderness and kindness are not signs of weakness and despair, but manifestations of
strength and resolutions.” Kahlil Gibran. 2

“The ideals which, have lighted my way and time after time have given me new courage to
face life cheerfully have been Kindness, Beauty, and Truth. The trite subjects of human
efforts, possessions, outward success, luxury have always seemed to me contemptible.”
Albert Einstein

"Treat the earth well: it was not given to us by our parents, it is loaned to us by our
children.” Ancient Indian Proverb
