Problem of AirAsia Customers who claim they have not yet received refunds for
flights that were cancelled or postponed due to the pandemic are flooding
Malaysia's AirAsia with complaints. After the Malaysian government closed
national and international borders to stop the spread of COVID-19, hundreds of
flights were cancelled by AirAsia and its subsidiary AirAsia X (AAX), both of
which are controlled by Capital A Berhad. Technology analysis (Pestle analysis)
This element significantly contributed to AirAsia's status as the top low-cost
airline to this point. They will need to stay up to date because technology is
developing at a rapid pace if they want to outperform their rivals. Managing the
"e-ticketing" online ticketing system is one of the essential aspects of AirAsia's
technological adaptation. They were able to eliminate travelling agent fees by
using this technology to reduce the cost of distribution (Scribd, 2019). Online
sales make up a significant portion of their total sales. In addition, AirAsia
offers online services for vehicle rentals, hotel reservations, and travel
insurances, making it easier for clients and a one-stop shop for those who are
travelling or in a hurry. Additionally, they have developed an app that users can
download for free and that will alert them when an offer is running. Additionally,
they introduced a service called "Go Holiday" where clients may save money by
purchasing their flights and hotel rooms together in one affordable bundle
(Scribd, 2019). They were declared the best "Travel Website in Asia" and have
the most daily traffic, supporting this information. Additionally, they frequently
respond to customer comments on "Facebook" to address any misconceptions
or problems, making them one of the most engaging accounts in the
transportation business. Tan Sri Dr. Anthony Francis Fernandes, their CEO,
keeps up with the most recent news on Twitter. By launching "Airbus," AirAsia
was able to lower travel expenses, which was made possible by the
development of technology. This change enabled AirAsia to perform better while
boosting dependability. They were able to lower the cost by using less fuel and
having simpler maintenance, which allowed them to provide a low-cost airline.
(Scribd, 2019) Sun Zi theory According to the book “The Art of War”, chapter
1:17 “According as circumstances are favorable, one should modify one’s plan”.
Sun Tzu, a military strategist, will not tolerate "bookish thoric." According to
Chang Yu, "you must be led by the activities of the enemy in striving to
acquire an advantageous position in actual conflict, but the fundamental rules
of strategy may be expressed clearly enough for the benefit of all and all”.
Therefore, he urges us here not to place our reliance in abstract ideas.
Therefore, like AirAsia modified their plans and create new plans to overcome
their problems in different circumstances. For example, during the COVID-19,
they received a lot of complaints that their flights are cancelled or postponed.
So, they come out with a new strategy to solve this issue. They offered low-cost
tickets to customers. It can help them to attract new customers and win back
their existing customers. Thus, we can see that AirAsia is using this this theory
in their business.
