Topic and Concept Development Reflection

Name ___Mary Capretta

What is the topic your team will be exploring?

The topic our clinical rounds group had decided to explore is buildings. I personally will be designing a lesson plan
dedicated around the idea of furnishings.

What are the 4 concepts (the smaller ideas) you will be

connecting to the broader topic (the big idea)?
- Furnishings
- Deconstruction
- Construction
- Homes

What evidence do you provide that led you to identifying this

investigation topic?
The most used center in the explorer classroom is the blocks center. The kids love to use the blocks to build houses,
ramps, barns to hold animals, and different structures to hold anything they can find in the center. All they talk about
is building and destroying things, so this topic was an easy topic to incorporate many different interests into one.

What are you most excited about for this investigation?

I’m just excited to see how the kids react to the different lessons
we all plan. They will all be similar, but different enough to still
be intriguing. I’m just excited to see what they do with all the
activities and who gravitates the most to what sub-topic we plan
a lesson for.
What are 2 possible objectives for the course of your whole
investigation? Use the formula as follows: the children will
LEARN THIS SKILL by DOING THIS SPECIFIC THING.
Think about how this will link to measurable ways you can
document children’s growth over time.
1. Students will learn how to observe buildings and everything inside of the building, in a manner
that shows growth and attention to different smaller details.
2. Students will gain some kind of knowledge about the importance of caring for our buildings and
everything inside out buildings.
