Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

Preliminary Activities
Good morning, class! Good morning, Ma’am!

How are you, class? We’re doing great, Ma’am.

May I call on Jhoanna to lead the prayer. (Jhoanna will pray)

Thank you, Jhoanna for that heartfelt prayer.

Who are absent today? There are no absent today.

It’s good to know that all of you are present!

Before we proceed to our new lesson, what did I learned about the Factors that affect
you learn last meeting? Population Growth.

What are the factors that affect population Birth Rate - Birth rate or Natality is number
growth? of births in a population.

Death Rate - Death rate or Mortality is the

number of deaths in a population.

Population Density - refers to the number

of organisms per unit area.

Density-dependent limiting factors - as

factors that affect the per capita growth rate
of a population differently depending on how

dense the population already is.

Density-dependent limiting factors - It

does not directly influence changes in
population growth unlike density-dependent
limiting factor.

Carrying Capacity - It is the maximum

number of organisms that an environment can
support.

Logistic Growth - It is a constant increase in

the number of populations.

Exponential Growth - It is a population

growth in which the growth rate decreases
with increasing number of organisms, until it
becomes zero when the population reaches it
carrying capacity.

Very good! You were able to recall the topics we

tackled last meeting.

But before we start our lesson, do you want to Yes, Ma’am.

play a game?

A. Before the Lesson (Motivation)

This game is called PictoWord.

Mechanics of the game:

1. The students will read two or more
pictures to form a word.

Are you ready? Yes, Ma’am.

Predation, Ma’am.

Competition, Ma’am.

Emigration, Ma’am.

Limiting Factors, Ma’am.

Very good!

Based on your answer on the game earlier, what Our topic is all about Limiting Factors, Ma’am.
do you think is our topic for today?

Exactly!

B. Lesson Proper (Discussion)

I have here a video clip about Limiting Factors,
analyze it and we will have sharing of
knowledge about the video.

Are you ready? Yes, Ma’am.

https://youtu.be/pPw51fDTl68?si=AjEu0HWFIJ8mASD0 (The student will watch the video)

Based on the video, what is your analysis? The video is about the Limiting Factors in an
Ecosystem. It tackles about the different
factors that affect the population and help
stabilize the ecosystem.

Very good!
A limiting factor is anything that constrains a
What is Limiting Factor? population's size and slows or stops it from
growing.
Good job!

We have 4 Limiting Factor:

1. Diseases and Parasites
2. Competition for Resources
3. Predation
4. Emigration

What do you observe in this picture? A sick animal.

The first Limiting Factor is Diseases and These are infectious diseases and parasites
Parasites. What is this? that could spread faster in densely populated
areas.
Very good!

How diseases and parasites is a limiting factor? As population density increases, they are able
to spread more easily within the population,
eventually leading to a decrease in population
growth.
Good answer!

What do you observe in this picture? An animal that is fighting.

Good observation!
The competition can be considered as a
The next limiting factor is Competition for limiting factor within an ecosystem because
Resources. What is your idea in this limiting there is a limited supply of resources that can
factor? be used and consumed by both.

Very good!

How competition for resources is a limiting Organism with better adaptations to obtain
factor? (food) resources will be able to reproduce
more often, and its population will grow. The
organisms that have limited abilities to
compete for the resources will not reproduce
often, may not be fit enough to live long, and
can cause their population decrease.

The next limiting factor is Predation. What do Predation is a biological interaction where one
you understand in this word? organism, the predator, kills and eats another
organism, its prey.

Great job!

How predation is a limiting factor? Predators kill and eat their prey, of course, so
predation increases prey death rate and can
cause negative growth rates – population
decline. As the number of prey decreases, so
will the number of predators, because there is
not enough food to sustain them.
Good job!

What about this picture, what do you observe? A large number of animals are crossing the
river.

Good observation!

The last limiting factor is called Emigration. Emigration means an animal leaves its home
What is Emigration? because the habitat is no longer ideal for
them and they need to find a more suitable
environment.
Very good!

What is the difference between Immigration and Immigration means an animal establishes a
Emigration? home in a habitat because it has resources it
can utilize or because the habitat is ideal for
them. Emigration means an animal leaves its
home because the habitat is no longer ideal
for them and they need to find a more
suitable environment.

Very well said!

Do you understand the discussion? Yes, Ma’am.

Generalization
Name the 4 Limiting Factors Diseases and Parasites - These are
infectious diseases and parasites that could
spread faster in densely populated areas.

Competition for Resources – The

competition can be considered as a limiting
factor within an ecosystem because there is a

limited supply of resources that can be used

and consumed by both.

Predation – Predation is a biological

interaction where one organism, the predator,
kills and eats another organism, its prey.

Emigration - Emigration means an animal

leaves its home because the habitat is no
longer ideal for them and they need to find a
more suitable environment.
