Costelo

BSCE 2-4

Summary

First, they tackled about the 6 Arts and Culture Grants for funding and financial support; Access
to material and equipments, forced prioritization, professional development, exhibition opportunities,
stagnation or regression, reconition and validation. Second the under-appreciation of local art, they
discussed why it occurs and gives 7 reason and these are cultural bias, colonial influence, limited
exposure, educational system, economic factors, institutional supports and public perception. Third they
tackles “Limited Freedom of Expression” which they explain it in the most effective way, it says that it is
the fundamental aspect of artistic creation. However, In the Philippines, it is frequently against the law
for artists to display contentious subjects, which limits their capacity to completely express themselves
and use their work to further public discourse. Addition to that, they explain the challenges and impact
that can be faced. Third, they explain what is Commercial Pressure and What is Overproduction which
means “overproduction of paintings” but it has different meanings just like what they say maybe artist is
creating more work than they sell or maybe artists are creating so much art so quickly that the quality
may degrade or the market becomes oversaturated with comparable works of art, making it harder for
particular pieces to stand out. In this topic, they also discussed the difference between Artistic Integrity
and Commercial Success.
