Digital Technology

Encouraging students to creatively interact with

technology transforms them from passive users into
innovative thinkers and problem solvers. This
approach not only enriches their learning experiences
but also equips them with the skills needed to thrive in
an ever-evolving digital world

Learning Intentions
The main focus of today is for you to THINK, CHAT and PLAY

By the end of this session you will:

● share your thoughts about the rapid progress of

technology and what it means for us
● have an awareness of AI (Artificial Intelligence) - what it
is and what is happening now
● understand what is available in Google Workspace and
have a play with the tools
● know what new resources are available in the school and
how to access these
● Have had a go at designing a 3D creation!
What will happen to us before 2025?

Artificial Intelligence - What is it?
Artificial intelligence leverages computers and machines to mimic the
problem-solving and decision-making capabilities of the human mind.

It’s already here!

● Social Media ● Commuting to work
● Sending an email or message ● Banking
● Google Search ● Amazon recommendations
● Digital Voice assistants (Siri or Alexa) ● Netflix
ChatGPT & Bard
ChatGPT and Bard are both AI tools that can generate text, translate languages, and answer
questions. ChatGPT is better at generating creative text formats, while Bard is better at
understanding and responding to natural language.

Possible use cases:

● Can differentiate learning for a wide range of students. Make a L3 School Journal read
as a L2.
● Finding links between curriculum areas. Include technology in your history lesson.
● Creating lesson plans.
● Drafting, proofreading and rewording e.g. emails.
ChatGPT & Bard
How to get the most out of ChatGPT and BARD:

● Be clear and specific. Give as much detail as you can. If asking for a lesson
plan include what year level you are teaching too, how long the lesson will take
and what resources you have available.
● Set clear learning objectives.
● Be patient. If you don’t like the answers you can ask for more detail or for it to
be simplified.
● Provide examples of what you are looking for.
● The more you use these models, the better you get at asking the right
questions.

Working smarter!
Take a moment…..

AI is looming large for

education. But is it good or
bad? Help or hindrance?
Smart thinking or cheating?
Artificial Intelligence
So why use AI in education?

● Adaptive learning and personalised learning

● Immediate feedback leading to better understanding and retention of
knowledge.
● Early intervention
● Continuous improvement
● Empowering students and fostering curiosity and independence

Cons

● Overdependence
● Ethical issues - privacy
● Unemployment and retraining

What and Why 3D printing?
3D printing offers a way for students to truly connect to the subject matter by physically
manipulating ready-printed teaching aids or by designing tools themselves.
Much of the skill in 3D printing comes from creating digital models which can lead to many areas
of employment, for example:

● Architects, engineers, graphic designers (they produce digital models of their designs, it has
enabled the design of buildings and structures that would be almost impossible to design
any other way)
● Movie and TV productions
● Game designers
● Biological and scientific modeling (medical advancement)
● Food

It’s likely that 3D modelling and printing will increasingly become valuable skills, therefore it’s
important for students to be familiar with the technology.
3D Printing in Education
● Creates excitement - bringing the world of theory into the physical
world.
● Activates knowledge, creativity and resilience - understanding that
failure is part of the process and become more willing to attempt
and execute new ideas.
● Problem solving skills - troubleshooting and solving problems,
persistence when they are challenged in new ways.
● Authentic links to a range of curriculum areas - elevates students to
become more active and engaged through the conception, design,
and execution of their projects.

Q: What are some authentic learning experiences, across the curriculum,

where you could implement 3D printing?
