Walking Meditation Walking Meditation

You can practice meditation while you are walking. Relaxed and slow walking.
◦ When you walk with heavy purpose in mind our steps are weighed
down with worry, stress, fear, anxiousness etc…
This meditation is especially useful to avoid mental dullness
(sloth and torpor) when it occurs. Do not set any goals of arriving at a destination within a specified
time.

Generate awareness of the phenomena as they are while the


walking is happening. (at the present moment) The purpose of walking is mindfulness contemplation.

Focus on your walking first then others walking and then yours-

Look forward. Capture the present moment physical activity
Generate awareness of heading
Turn the head to the left slowly maintaining mindfulness. Be neutral and unbiased (not liking or disliking)

At the end start turning the head to the right.


Observe it arising and passing away
Maintain awareness of the head movement; Left and Right
alternatively.
Focus on your action first then others actions and then yours-

The four-element analysis extends the awareness to aspects
of the body that manifest the qualities of heat and motion.

Contemplation of the body's earthy and watery qualities can be done
 Earth element represents hardness or softness by observing the physical sensations of the solid and liquid parts of
the body.
 Water element represents wetness or dryness Awareness of its fiery quality can be developed by body heat, and
processes such as digestion and ageing.
