"MANO PO 6: A MOTHER'S LOVE”

In the Philippines, there's a common term used to describe

when a movie, music album, or TV show fails to perform
financially or attract a sizable audience—it's called a "flop."
For example, the movie "Mano Po 6: A Mother's Love,"
which despite being a part of a well-known film series,
encountered significant challenges. It received unfavorable
reviews from critics and struggled to draw audiences to the
theaters, resulting in disappointing box office earnings.
Fads
Fads in Philippine pop culture are momentary
BUDOTS
phenomena that experience a surge in popularity for
a brief duration before gradually fading into difficult
to understand, like to the "budots" dance craze.
During the early 2010s, a lot of individuals enjoy
embraced this craze, showcasing their dance moves
to budots music through various online platforms.
However, as is typical with most fads, its momentum
gradually waned as fresher trends emerged to
capture the public's attention.
Sleeper Hits
“HENERAL LUNA”

Sleeper hits in Philippine pop culture are things

that don't get noticed much at first but become
popular later because people start talking about
them or saying they're good. Like, for instance,
the movie "Heneral Luna." It didn't show in many
places at first, but then people really liked it and
talked about it, so it made a lot of money and
got people talking about Philippine history.

Following
METRO MANILA FILM FESTIVAL

One thing lots of people really like in the

Philippines is the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).
It happens every year around Christmas and shows
Filipino movies. Some movies get really popular with
everyone, but others become favorites of a smaller
group of fans. These fans watch the movies many
times, talk about them a lot, and analyze them.
Blockbuster
“THE HOWS OF US”

Blockbusters in Filipino pop culture are

really big hits that make a ton of money,
usually by breaking records at the box office.
A good example is the movie "The Hows of
Us" with Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla.
It made more money than any other Filipino
movie ever, pulling in over PHP 800 million at
the box office.
Parodies, Sampling, and Remixes
“TANGING INA”
“PRAYBEYT BENJAMIN”
“TALA”

In the Philippines, it's pretty normal for people to

make fun versions of stuff, like movies and songs.
Like, "Ang Tanging Ina" and "Praybeyt Benjamin" for
instance, they poke fun at other movies and got really
famous. In music, folks often take parts of songs and
mix them up to make something new, like when DJ
Squammy remixed Sarah Geronimo's "Tala."
These examples show different parts of Filipino popular
culture and help us understand things like failures,
trends, surprise successes, famous figures with devoted
fans, big hits, and funny imitations, borrowing, and
changes in that culture.
