“AutoCAD“

What is AutoCAD?
AutoCAD is a commercial computer-aided design and drafting software application.
Developed and marketed by Autodesk. AutoCAD was first released in December 1982 as a
desktop app running on microcomputer with internal graphics controllers. Before AutoCAD
introduced, most commercial CAD programs ran on mainframe computer or minicomputer, with

each CAD operator working at a separated graphical terminal. AutoCAD is also available as
mobile and web apps. AutoCAD is primarily used for 2Dimensional drawings, and even though
3D modeling is available in AutoCAD other computer-aided design software like Fusion 360,
Inventor and Solid-works are preferred in 3D modeling.

AutoCAD is used in industry, by architects, project managers, engineers, graphic designers, city
planners and other professionals.

What are the benefits of AutoCAD?

1. Accurate and Reduces Errors

2. Save Time & Money

3. Easier Data Transfer

4. Database for Manufacturing

5. Easier Import/ Export of Files

6. Apply Point Clouds

7. Layering Feature

8. Calculation

9. Image Tracing Feature

10. PDF Import Enhancements

These are some of the advantages of AutoCAD. While the latest version of AutoCAD is more
advanced and comes with a fantastic set of tools and commands. With a new Autodesk print
studio, the users can create a 3D print-ready file, and then they can directly print it. This file
can be printed on almost all 3D printers.

AutoCAD’s advanced and updated version also has a new migration custom setting window
that is more attractive and easy to understand. It also has enhanced graphics in 2D and 3D,
with updated and smooth features and improvised performance. Another advantage of
using AutoCAD is designers can even view, create, edit or share CAD drawings on their
mobile devices or any web browser.

What did we learn from the training?

o Basic Drawing Techniques.
o Modifying Drawings.
o Viewing and Managing Drawings.
o Annotation and Presentation. o Advanced Drawing Techniques.
o Collaboration and Sharing.
o Customizing AutoCAD.

AutoCAD summer training offers several benefits for electrical engineering students. Firstly,
it provides hands-on experience with CAD software, which is widely used in the industry.
This training helps us develop our skills in creating electrical diagrams, control circuit models,
and schematics. Additionally, AutoCAD summer training enhances our understanding of the
ACAD environment, teaching us how to draw and model power distribution system.
Moreover, it enables us to estimate the lifetime of individual components and simulate the
flow of electricity. Overall, this training improves our proficiency, accuracy, and efficiency in
engineering processes. It equips us with valuable skills that are highly sought after in the job
market.

Types of lighting fixture:

▪ 120*30 [41 watt – 3400 lumens]

▪ 60*60 [37 watt – 4300 lumens]
▪ 26Ø [9 watt – 900 lumens]

Types of switches:

▪ Switches Contain Only Two Points:

i. One Way – One Gang Switch [One switch in one frame box]
ii. One Way – Two Gang Switch [Two switch in one frame box]
iii. One Way – Three Gang Switch [Three switch in one frame box]

▪ Switches Contain Three Points:

a. Two Way – One Gang Switch [One lamp is controlled by two switches from two
different places]

▪ Load Break Switch [Used for any equipment that don’t have plug] ➢ EX: Air
Conditioner, Water Heater.

Types of sockets:
▪ Single Socket [One socket in frame box]
▪ Duplex Socket [Two sockets in frame box]
▪ Single Phase Industrial Socket 1.P [Used for high current equipment]
▪ Three Phase Industrial Socket 3.P [Used for high current equipment]

-The difference between Design drawing and Shop drawing-

BOTH shop drawings and design drawings are integral to the design and fabrication of a
variety of projects, from piping and plate-work, through to bridge, commercial and industrial

developments. Though often confused as the same thing, structural steel shop drawings and
design drawings each play a distinctly different, but equally important, role in the
construction process. Design drawings are used in the early stage of design development as a
means to communicate design ideas and proposals. In comparison, shop drawings provide the
details needed by a fabricator during fabrication, assembly, installation and erection, such as
the specified material, weld types and connections.

➢ Design Drawing:
o Deign drawings are undertaken as the first step of the design
phase.
o They are usually aesthetic concepts or renderings that represent a
client’s ideas and designers’ intent.
o Used to showcase the design concept and initial ideas and to
display the aesthetic appearance of the project.
o The consultant who make them. o Have a 40% of the electrical
work details.
o They allow the architect or designer to communicate their concepts
and vision to contractors, builders and fabricators.
o Helps to clarify the final shape of the project and give a general
idea of the overall design appearance.
o Design drawing generally include the following information:
i. Number of elements [lighting fixtures or sockets] in each space.
ii. The proposed position of each element.
iii. Which elements are on the same electric circuit

➢ Shop Drawing:
o Shop drawings [also known as fabrication drawings] are detailed plans
that translate design intent.
o Used to illustrate the detailed execution of the project and to convert
general engineering design into detailed drawings.
o The contractor who make them. o Have 90% of electric work
details.
o Provides detailed information for contractors and craftsmen to
correctly execute the project according to the original design.
o They provide fabricators with the information necessary to
manufacture, fabricate, assemble and install all the components of a
structure.
o Shop drawing generally include the following information:
i. Coordination with other plans to give the accurate place of each element.
ii. Route of conduits from elements to electrical panel.
iii. Number of wires in each conduit.
